Xbox One Kinect is Not Dead Yet!
I was expecting my Kinect to be more of a main component to my console, but instead it sits on my tv and acts as a glorified microphone when I’m too lazy to reach for the controller. (Or too lazy to pull up the SmartGlass app even though I have my phone in my hand.) I’ve only used the camera a handful of times on Battlefield 4 (dat lean tho!) and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die (very cool), but usually the cover is left on the lens as I command it around.
Most of those commands turn into arguments when it refuses to pause Netflix. Usually when I need to open the door and grab the pizza from the delivery man.
Then I grab my controller and impatiently wait for the blinking light to turn solid as I hit ‘A’ and walk to get my food. I usually mutter and ask myself why I bought the thing in the first place, and then I remember that I didn’t really have a choice. All of the Day One editions had them bundled in with the console. The Kinect was supposedly going to be this big thing now, not like the 360 Kinect. Fruit Ninja was fun though.
Over the PAX weekend, Major Nelson stated that Microsoft has not forgotten the Kinect and that they have some “cool stuff” planned that will apparently be announced at E3 2016 later this year. Microsoft is also working to improve the streaming ability of xbox games on the PC. There are also rumors that we will see a slim version of the Xbox console. Cortana and what part of the Kinect she will utilize will also be discussed. I think it would be cool if there were some camera abilities she could use. My fingers are crossed, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Is there any game coming out that you hope will have some cool Kinect function? Let me know in the comments!
