Microsoft Looking To Revamp The Xbox Achievements System

For Those Who Prefer To Play A Few Games

The measure of an Xbox Gamer can usually be determined by the size of their gamerscore, at least for the most part. The system doesn’t take into account those players who like the focus on one or a handful of games, but that could be changing soon.

In an interview with YouTuber Rand al Thor 19 and Windows Central Senior Editor Jez Corden, Xbox Platform Corporate Vice President Mike Ybarra had a bunch of things to say about the future of the Xbox brand, and where the achievements system could be going in the future:

“[W]e can do a lot more to reflect and let people show their gaming history and their status. Whether it’s somebody who only plays multiplayer in Halo 5 at a professional level, maybe they only have 2,000 Gamerscore, you want to be able to celebrate that person. You want people to be in the know.

“This person doesn’t play a lot of games, but they’re world top ten at Halo 5. All the way to people [with over a million gamerscore]. It’s that range that we really need to look at and celebrate … we’re going to go big in the area of letting people show off and represent their gaming history and the type of gamer that they are, far more than we do with Gamerscore.”

What that change could be is open for debate at this point. The Xbox One used to have a showcase system on your profile to highlight noteworthy achievements, so that could make a comeback. However, it is important to note that the Xbox Team aren’t looking to abolish gamerscore, merely complement it.
