Battlefield TV Series On Its Way?
Battlefield is one of the best-loved shooter series in gaming history, with more than 60 million players have joined the fray since the start of the series in 2002. But the fan-base may be about the seriously explode if this gets off the ground: Turns out that Paramount Television, along with Anonymous Content, have optioned the rights to make a TV show based on DICE’s popular FPS.
According to the president of Paramount TV, Amy Powell:
Paramount TV actively seeks smart content from all sectors that will resonate with audiences and translate to compelling programming. EA’s Battlefield has an incredibly dynamic narrative, coupled with a loyal fan base, which will allow us to bring this exciting and unique property to the small screen. We look forward to working with EA and Anonymous Content and thank Michael Sugar for his tenacity in bringing us this exciting project.
Michael Sugar, a partner at production studio Anonymous Content, added to the love-in between them, Paramount, DICE and EA by stating that:
Battlefield has a tremendous built-in, engaged fan base, making it a highly coveted piece of IP primed for long-form adaptation. Together with EA and Paramount TV, we’ll develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly fifteen years.
Anonymous Content have previously produced True Detective and Amazon Prime-exclusive, Mr. Robot. Those shows, known for their gritty edge, gives us an insight into the sort of television show Battlefield might become.
