Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously – there is no huge incoming war and your not the chosen one that can stop the end of the world. Instead, you play a young and inexperienced lad named Kay that finds himself inheriting the ruined kingdom of his ancestors, and after running into a shady gentleman that reveals his ancestors owe a large amount of money, he is forced to restore the kingdom to its former glory. Kay begins his journey accompanied by Elaine and Gwendolyn; his two sisters, and a personal bodyguard named … Read More »

The most frustrating thing about Gravel, developed by Milestone, is that it is in no way a bad game. Whilst it looks pretty good at times and there is more than enough content from tracks and different cars to race, it never really amazed us. It fails to capture both fans of arcade style racing games and newcomers. There are many problems with the gameplay itself – the handling of cars is just bad; potato on wheels comes to mind. Possibly due to the fact that Gravel is an off-road racing game, so you’re constantly racing on muddy and dirt roads, but … Read More »

The premise of a lot of video games is that you, the protagonist, is there to save the world from what ever impending doom is coming. The premise of Extinction is something a little different. The world has already fallen to the ogre armies and now it is your task to just try to save as many people as possible, to try to stop the human race from going extinct. You play as Avil, a hero with a sword and your main enemies are the Ravenii. Basically these are just giant ogres which take up half of the screen. These … Read More »

Let’s face it, video games are expensive and take up a lot of our time, and with trivial things like work, family, friends, and general hygiene getting in the way, finding this time to sink into our pastime can be tricky. Likewise, a majority of AAA titles these days tend to abide to the mantra “if it’s not broke don’t fix it”, which, in turn, means we don’t see much innovation within the yearly release titles. All hope is not lost, though. Thanks to some incredibly inventive and pioneering game designers, we also have a large selection of indie titles … Read More »

Developed by the small six-person team at Threye Interactive, indie puzzle platformer Switch – Or Die Trying does exactly what it says on the tin: switch between a small and large character in order to navigate brutally difficult levels where you will die, a lot. Whilst the level of unforgiving challenge presented here will undoubtedly be of interest to some, the clunky and unintuitive controls prohibit this quirky indie title from being anything other than tedious. At first glance, the level design is adorably charming. Each of the five worlds have their own distinctive art and sound design from a Stranger Things-esque forest … Read More »
