There’s one gaping ol’ plot hole in We Happy Few – and Compulsion Games’ upcoming Clockwork Update looks set to fix that. The psychedelically creepy survival sim, which is currently in Xbox Game Preview, opens with a chase into the abandoned underground tube stations. You desperately smash open a door, when the bobbies chasing you thwack your thoroughly British head with a police baton. You then wake up in an underground shelter. How did you get there? Who put you there? The Clockwork Update will sort out that little niggling plot hole. Don’t expect much more from the story, though, … Read More »

We Happy Few is the quirky survival game from Compulsion games, and since its release it has provoked both good and bad reactions, which is to be expected of a game still in its preview state. With preview games, the longer they are out the better they seem to get – so long as developers keep working on the game. And that is exactly what we are here to tell you: the newest patch for We Happy Few will be rolling out within the next few days. Follow the link to see an entire list of patch notes. Click Here. Before E3 this year, We Happy Few was just another indie game that was about to hit the market but in LA it grabbed the audience by the ear and dragged it along for something of a ride. That trailer – showing the protagonist at work in a press redaction centre in a world that had been changed, where joy was provided via a pill that – was one of the highlights of E3. Those mask-wearing joyed up citizens made for a creepy feel that enticed us to experience this world for ourselves. We Happy Few is still only a preview game so … Read More »

We always get a little hyped by trailers – even if we’re not so keen on the games themselves. So if you’ve missed any, here’s our list of the absolute best trailers we saw in July… We Happy Few – Gameplay Trailer A pitch-perfect trailer that shows off the graphics and gameplay of Compulsion Games’ indie survival sim, while playing it tongue-in-cheek with the set-up of the whole game. Inside Accolades Trailer Ordinarily, we’d be super-wary of any game that was basing an entire trailer around all those lovely, lovely things that lovely, lovely shills say to get their names on the … Read More »

We like We Happy Few. It’s got a long road ahead of it – something developer Compulsion Games was very clear about when the dystopian 60s adventure joined the Game Preview programme – but there’s an intriguing game lurking under the bits that need a little polish. Yesterday, the first in what is likely to be a continuing series of updates, fixes and changes landed on PC and will be heading to Xbox shortly. One of the biggest updates we’ll see is in the survival element of the game, addressing what many felt was an over emphasis on staying alive that … Read More »

Gamescom 2015 was a big deal for Microsoft and Xbox – the premiere European event of the season showcased “the greatest games lineup in Xbox history” and the 90 minute briefing was jam-packed with Xbox goodness. Xbox supremo Phil Spencer has confirmed there’ll be no similar briefing at Gamescom (Cologne, Germany, 17-21 August) this year – but there will be a Sea-of-Thieves-galleon-sized boatload of games to play, including Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, ReCore, We Happy Few, Everspace, and Cuphead. With six stands across three areas and two halls, Microsoft’s presence will be anything but low key. Mr … Read More »

One of the most interesting games shown at the recent E3 in the City of Angels was We Happy Few from Compulsion Games. Set in a 1960s dystopian England, We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. You’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules. We have been loving We Happy Few so far, after it joined the Game Preview programme in what the developer is … Read More »

In case you didn’t know, Xbox allows certain games to ‘test’ the water on Xbox One. Utilising the Game preview section, devs are able to have their game in the store in a type of pre-release format. This allows them to optimise the game and iron out any major bugs before the final release, it also means that for you – the consumer – you have access to an ‘as yet’ unfinished game at a reduced cost. It’s a gamble, to say the least, as purchasing a preview game will ultimately have one of 2 outcomes. Either you will get the game at a … Read More »
