On Sunday, at this year's E3 event, Microsoft's new console, the Xbox One X was announced. Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer confirmed that the console will still support virtual reality. On Tuesday, Spencer told CNET that the Xbox One X will fully support VR, and their prior commitment in regards to this hasn't changed. It has been announced by Microsoft that the Xbox one 'family' of consoles will receive a Virtual Reality/Mixed Reality headset in 2018. This is the first kind of MR headset, as Microsoft appear to be shunning the VR term. The hardware, by Acer, will begin shipping to developers this month as part of a phased rollout system. This will give developers access to the software development kit and Windows 10 Insider preview builds. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has spoken out about his thoughts and Microsoft's VR plans in a recent interview. And it appears that they are be no rush to bring the format to Scorpio or Windows 10. Asked where VR currently sits on the agenda for Microsoft, Spencer appears to not be convinced just yet. Last month Microsoft announced an expansion to their wireless line-up and now we have some firm details as to what that actually means: The new Xbox One wireless controller will be compatible with controller-enabled games on the Samsung Gear VR. At least one major developer is currently planning to release a new virtual reality game on Xbox One in 2017, and plans to show that game at E3, according to respected technology publication Ars Technica. Flying Mollusk have recently announced that Nevermind will be offering VR compatibility along with an Xbox One release. Although no date has been announced for the release, this is sure to be a big seller.
