Unravel turned out to be one of this years big indie hits. Yarney and his stringy adventure captured the hearts and imaginations of many with its stunning visuals and great platforming action. Last week we told you that Ea had extended their deal with developer Coldwood Interactive Studio which led to much speculation. Well now it gives us great pleasure to let you know that this contract extension is for one specific reason. Unravel was announced to the world at E3 last year, a puzzle-platformer based in locales from developer Coldwood Interactive's native Sweden and featuring a protagonist so loveable you can buy Valentine's cards with him on. The power of cuteness prevails A few days ago news broke out that 'Unravel' was already in use and this indie sweetie might have to change the name (click here for the details), not anymore though to the relief of many - especially EA and Coldwood Interactive. It all looks a bit confusing unless you are in the know with these things, let's see if we can unravel the story of 'Unravel': EA submitted the trademark 'Unravel' The trademark was refused as 'Unravel' is already in use as a board game by SimplyFun SimplyFun's trademark covers board games; games, namely, educational ... It seems like EA's new cute puzzle platformer 'Unravel' is getting, for lack of a better term, unraveled. Things became decidedly woolly for the game when EA failed to respond to the United States Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) denial of their trademark application for the title in December of last year. This has resulted in two of the trademarks for Unravel to be termed as 'Abandoned' by the USPTO. What has caused this knot in Unravel's future? A board game company named SimplyFun currently holds the trademark for Unravel with their children's board game 'Beary's Unravel Game'. The game focuses ... Read More »
