I play games to have fun. I'm generally not very good - frequently I'm awful - and I generally avoid the most toxic communities because being sworn at isn't much fun. I'll stay out of the super-competitive modes unless I'm playing with friends, because I know that's not fair on the randoms with whom I'm paired. But why are so many video game communities - and their members - so toxic? After all, these are just games.
