Back in 2003, developer Future Games introduced us to The Black Mirror. It was a third-person point and click adventure that was based around horror themes and mystery. Developer KING Art is rebooting the classic for modern-day consoles with Black Mirror. This newest adaptation takes place years before the original game. What was made to be a continuation of the horror and mystery leaves players wondering if the real horror and mystery is the overall finished quality of the game itself.  With what has amazing promise is marred by development issues as well as some jarring animations. Black Mirror puts … Read More »

Developer Piranha Bytes have released their next ambitious game titled ELEX; an open world RPG Having previously worked on the Risen titles for Xbox 360, this is their first foray onto Xbox One. And what an ambitious project this is. But does it hold up well to today’s standards? The story begins with an introduction to the world you’re about to step foot in – Magelan; an alternate version of Earth where technology ruled the world, but a devastating comet destroyed most of the planet, with the remaining survivors of the world forming factions in hopes of ruling the world … Read More »

If there’s one form of landscape that is noticeably absent from our British Isles, it’s desert. We have hills and mountains, and forests and beaches, but desert is entirely absent. Thrashing various types of vehicles across it at breakneck speeds is therefore not the first thing that pops into our minds when we think of motorsport – but THQ Nordic’s Baja: Edge of Control HD is hoping to expand our horizons a little. Baja: Edge of Control HD is a remaster of an Xbox 360 game – the latest in the current batch of HD remasters which is rapidly becoming … Read More »

When I first booted up Sine Mora EX, all I expected was some solid shoot ‘em up action, and I got that. What I wasn’t expecting was a story concerned with blackmail, rape and genocide. There’s a time and a place for narratives like that, and perhaps a side scrolling shooter isn’t one of them. Sine Mora EX is the re-release of a little known shoot ‘em up from the previous generation that many might have missed out on, myself included. It’s a fairly typical shoot ‘em up for the most part; defeat a few waves of enemies before tackling … Read More »

Every so often a game comes along and blends a variety of genres together in a unique way. And that is exactly what THQ Nordic have done with This Is The Police. Part strategy, part simulator, part tycoon yet with a well-constructed story to back it up. However, blending genres is a dangerous ground which can lead to disaster if incorrectly executed. You’ve spent your whole career in the Police Department. And now, a mere 180 days away from your retirement, you realise you need a nice little pot of money, to the sum of half a million dollars, to … Read More »

This is the Police, an adventure/strategy title from THQ Nordic will be launching on Xbox One this March 22nd. You’ll take the reigns of Jack Boyd, a Police Chief as you immerse yourself in a story full of crime and grit. Set over a period of 180 days, your task is to make $500,000. But the story within the game will shape how, or if this happens with the choices you make deciding how the game plays out. THQ Nordic have said the following: Your mission is clear: make $500,000 in 180 days, before Jack Boyd reaches retirement. How? That’s … Read More »

Vermintide, or to give this battler its full title Warhammer – The End Times: Vermintide, lets you team up with three friends and work together to thin out Skaven forces and drive them out of the city. You will assume the role of one of five heroes, and hack, slash, smash, burn and pierce the vile ratmen using a multitude of weapons. Set in the Warhammer realm, this first person hack n’ slasher promises to be bloody, brutal and – if the brand new trailer is anything to go by – tons of fun. The game offers drop-in drop-out co-operative multiplayer for up to four … Read More »
