You have nothing to fear except fear itself, or so the saying goes anyway. Well Outlast 2 is here to prove otherwise. The original game was a masterclass in the survival horror genre and this title does nothing to diminish this reputation. The start of the game sees you flying in a helicopter with your reporter wife as you film her introducing a segment about what happened to a mysterious murdered girl known only as Jane Doe. This is your role in life, you are a cameraman and the camera is the only tool at your disposal. This position doesn't ... Read More »
The latest trailer for the delayed Friday the 13th game by Gun Media was released at PAX East 2017. The video demonstrates a range of grisly executions by the infamous killer Jason. Character models are nostalgically dressed in an 80's style fashion whilst the backtrack music gives this trailer a distinct feeling of the same era. Whilst there is no firm release date yet set, Friday the 13th was delayed to allow for improvements, but more interestingly, a single player campaign, which originally missed its stretch goal as part of a kickstarter for the title. Check out the full trailer ... Read More »
The survival horror genre has always predominantly been best at home in a 3D environment. Not many developers have taken the risk to translate such a game into a 2D perspective. Although we have seen the more recent Deadlight, Uncanny Valley attempts to create a non-linear, 2D pixelated survival story of its own. Brought to you by indie developers Cowardly Creations, Uncanny Valley focuses around protagonist Tom who must face his own personal nightmares whilst living his everyday life. You’re never quite aware from the start as to what is going on in regards to plot. You begin by waking ... Read More »
The seventh iteration in the main Resident Evil franchise is due to hit the shelves next week. And with the imminent arrival, Capcom have spoken out about their plans outside of the paid season pass. According to the current issue of Famitsu, the publisher has promised a free 'short story' DLC to be released in Spring 2017. Details are currently vague to say the least. About all we know aside from the release window, is that it will be titled 'Not a Hero'. However what we do know is that it will be somewhat different from the main story known as ... Read More »
While PlayStation gamers have already had a chance to play Resident Evil 7’s ‘Beginning Hour’ demo back in June, PC and Xbox gamers will have their chance later this month. The demo itself has already received two updates, with ‘Twilight’ providing more areas to explore, and ‘Midnight’ expanding rooms, weapons, enemies and endings. According to Capcom, the ‘Midnight’ update will finally allow gamers to ‘explore what lies beyond the mold-covered door, where terrifying growling noises emanate from.’ Xboxers will be the first to trial the new Resident Evil game when the demo drops on December 9th. Meanwhile, players on PC ... Read More »
Are you getting chills yet? Capcom certainly hope so, with their drip-feed of Resident Evil 7 teasers and trailers. And they’ve just released teaser vol. 2, ‘Shotgun in a Box’. This time, it’s focused on weapons and ammunition – or more accurately, the lack of them. There’s a damn good reason why the video’s single description reads: ‘Save your ammo… You’ll need it.’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tIC7vd_lPY The game’s graphics look absolutely gorgeous, consider it’s a horrifically dingy room we’re in. But perhaps more importantly for old-school fans, it’s nice to see the return of the traditional inventory box – along with the ... Read More »
According to Capcom, Resident Evil 7 will be enhanced with HDR support on Xbox One S. According to Capcom, "with HDR support on the Xbox One S, players can enjoy game-play in Full HD that offers realism that can almost be felt." HDR offers a wider choice of colours and a greater contrast ratio. HDR is best used in situations where you have very bright and very dark areas in the same frame, like a candle in a dark room, and so should help give more depth to the image with more detail to the dark areas. Resident Evil 7 ... Read More »
Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on with Resident Evil 7? How does a family of yokels link back to the Umbrella Corporation, because you know it well eventually... Answers on a postcard please, the most original theory will win an official Xbox One UK No-Prize! Seriously though, Resident Evil 7 looks to be the scariest and most atmospheric that series has been for a long time, and most of that appears to be because of the weird, possibly incest, possibly possessed zombie family we now know as The Bakers. Consisting of Jack, Marguerite and ... Read More »
Resident Evil 7 certainly caught the attention of gamers when it was revealed during E3 2016, not least because, with its first-person POV, it’s so utterly different from anything we’ve seen in the series before (and we’re not counting those FPS spin-offs with their emphasis on hot lead over horror). And according to a Capcom Unity interview with the game’s director, Kōshi Nakanishi, and producer, Masachika Kawata, the game’s not a reboot, but a return the series’ horror roots. During the interview, Nakanishi stated that: It’s not a reboot and we’re not throwing away the series’ canonical storyline. It’s the ... Read More »
