It’s starting to appear like Microsoft is confident with taking shots at Sony.  In a recent interview with Albert Penello, head of product and planning  for Xbox, he has made it very clear that they are focused on what developers want with 4K but the competition is not. “I think there are a lot of caveats they’re giving customers right now around 4K. They’re talking about checkerboard rendering and up-scaling and things like that. There are just a lot of asterisks in their marketing around 4K, which is interesting because when we thought about what spec we wanted for Scorpio, … Read More »

Phil Spencer Head of Xbox has spoken out in regards to the newest member of the Xbox family coming in 2017 – Project Scorpio. Spencer “the Xbox people’s Champion” says the Scorpio will be more inline with what people expect from consoles, “So I wouldn’t get people worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price ypu’ve ever seen. We didn’t design it that way” This is fantastic news, some of the team here were only recently speculating as to what the price point could come in at, this says to us we may be looking at potentially £500 for what’s … Read More »

Microsoft announced at E3 that it had something ‘big’ for us in late 2017 and whilst the exact specifications are still under wraps, Scorpio was revealed. What we do know though is that this console will come with a 6 teraflops GPU and will deliver a native 4K gaming experience. Yesterday (Weds 7th September), Microsoft’s biggest rival in the console market finally revealed the enhanced version of its PlayStation 4 Console, the PS4 ‘Pro’ (formerly codenamed ‘Neo’) and as per the leaked specs, features a 4.2 teraflops GPU and HDR gaming. It’s missing the 4k HDR Bluray player that Microsoft’s new Xbox … Read More »

Project Scorpio, the forthcoming uber-powerful iteration of Xbox One, is due to land towards the end of 2017 and it looks as though Electronic Arts – one of the biggest publishers in the industry – is fully behind it. Speaking to our friends over at Game Informer, EA Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund expressed his excitement about the move towards a more iterative update cycle for consoles, bringing more power to gamers within a console’s lifecycle. “If you’re a developer, when you make games, you always want more capacity. You always want to bring more to the players. We’re truly … Read More »

With the anticipation of what Microsoft has up their sleeves with the “most powerful gaming console ever” aka Project Scorpio, we know very little about what we can expect from the console when it launches end of 2017.  Lucky for us though Microsoft’s Albert Penello shed some light on what developers are going to do with the monster hardware and what we can expect as well. Scorpio is known as the console that will be able to render 4K UHD (ultra high definition) graphics at an impressive 60 frames per second.  Does this mean every game on Scorpio is going … Read More »

At E3 2016, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One S and hyped the console’s redesigned form and new features – but did they kill that hype just two and a half hours later? Microsoft shook the gaming industry by revealing the Xbox One S (which was leaked the day prior) at the beginning of their show, but then showed the world their future vision with Project Scorpio.  The show concluded with a muddy message from Microsoft – a slimmer redesigned Xbox One available towards the end of 2016, and a highly enhanced, far more powerful Xbox One set to appear just twelve months later. The question … Read More »

The Xbox Scorpio isn’t going to do anything for you if you don’t own a 4K TV to play it on, according to Phil Spencer. Will the Scorpio release make you want to run out and buy a 4K TV? In an interview with Eurogamer, Spencer was asked why consumers should opt for the Xbox One S over the Scorpio. “What TV do you have?” he asked. “A standard 1080p TV,” was the reply. “Then you should buy this box, because Scorpio is not going to do anything for you,” said Spencer. “Scorpio is designed as a 4K console, and … Read More »
