It was inevitable that Battlefield 1 was going to be a smash hit – the question was, how big a hit it was going to be. Would you be surprised if we told you that the WWI shooter is number one in the charts? Probably not, but we’ll tell you anyway: Game sales suggest that Battlefield 1 is number one in the charts, taking the lion’s share of the market(approximately 45%, in fact). EA and DICE’s FPS also racked up another huge achievement: Battlefield 1’s sales beat the launch week sales of both Battlefield 4 and Hardline combined. Across all … Read More »

Phil Spencer has opened up about Xbox One’s performance in Japan, in an interview with Famitsu magazine. It’s no secret that the Xbox One has performed abysmally in Japan – the launch was pretty embarrassing, with interest levels low and just a handful of consoles sold. A lot of commentators have put that down to various reasons: Mobile gaming is more popular, and Microsoft being a western company, unlike rival Sony have been cited for the poor release. Now Xbox chief, Phil Spencer has discussed why he thinks the console has failed to ignite the East. In a frank exchange, … Read More »

Mafia 3 was released just a few days ago – but that hasn’t stopped it becoming the best-selling game in the series. The third instalment of the open-world gangster trilogy had a rocky start in the run up to release, with choppy frame-rates on the PC and not nearly as much buzz as publisher 2K would’ve liked, despite a heavy marketing push. But you can’t keep a good gangster down, and Mafia 3 has managed to beat Mafia 2’s week one sales record by a staggering 58.7%. However good those figures are – and developers Hangar 13 will be happy … Read More »

Since the launch of the Xbox One S, sales have been heavy in Microsoft’s favor and it may continue thanks to some great deals on console bundles. When it launched in the UK towards the beginning of last month, though, its £350 price tag wasn’t exactly accessible. But today, the first One S console bundles (with FIFA 17 included) have launched, lowering the cost of entry to dangerous, impulse-buy territory. Whereas the standalone console has a 2TB HDD, the bundles include boxes with only 500GB or 1TB of storage. But if that’s not a deal-breaker, then you’re in for a … Read More »

The streamlined, slim-line white console with its 2TB hard drive and HDR support has sold phenomenally well since its release on 2nd August. We already knew it had sold out in the UK, … Read More »

Microsoft reported its financials for the fourth quarter of its 2016 financial year – so for the three-month period ending June 2016, and said gaming revenue decreased $152m, or nine percent, primarily due to lower Xbox hardware revenue. This isn’t too much of a surprise however due to Microsoft discontinuing the Xbox 360 as well as the release of Xbox One S coming soon.  With the ability to buy an Xbox 360 and consumers waiting to purchase the newest Xbox One hardware in August, Microsoft is hoping revenue will bounce back.  This is to be expected with a new hardware … Read More »
