Rare’s pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves has received a new update that fixes a few of the issues that players have been experiencing. Although as of yet, the developer hasn’t said anything about the new content that they have been promising. You will now receive a message from beyond which is a message from the ferryman telling you that you can scuttle your ship with instructions on how to do this. This could be a helpful tactic when in times of crisis but we imagined that it would have been a move frowned upon in the time of pirates. … Read More »

After spending many hours on the sea with shipmates, Rare has crafted a game that definitely has something special on offer. This is a true role-playing game in the sense that you are a pirate. A dirty grog-swilling, foul-mouthed scurvy dog of the seas. From the get-go the game does very little to hold your hand which some people may like and others may be completely turned away. Giving you a brief tutorial before letting you out into its world. The first couple of hours of the game will be learning the basics, controlling your ship, fighting skeletons and how to … Read More »

If you’re anything like us here at Xbox One UK HQ then you’ll love custom controllers, particularly when they offer something a little different. Hopefully, you’ll agree with us that this latest one from Microsoft looks like a good’un. Sea of Thieves isn’t out yet but is available for pre-order it. However, the limited edition controller has already been launched and we think it’s pretty awesome. It’s a translucent purple design with ‘laser etched barnacles’ for grip, with a golden right trigger (hidden pirate treasure), and the left control stick is in the form of a compass and a glow in the dark … Read More »

There’s a lot of work going on right now as Rare quietly beaver away getting the finishing touches to the much anticipated Sea of Thieves. It would be fair to say the developer has changed dramatically since the glory days of the 90’s under Nintendo’s stewardship. But it is Sea of Thieves, a brand new IP, that could see a strong return to form for Rare. Transparency has been great in recent months during development, with regular updates through the ‘Inn-Side Story’. Ahhhh, to be a pirate! Setting sail on open waters without a care in the world. Until you encounter a game breaking bug of some kind. That’s never fun, and it’s something Rare are hoping to avoid with their upcoming Sea of Thieves. With that in mind, Rare have announced that next weekend, from December 16th, will play host to the first of a series of scheduled technical playtests, with the aim of refining core features and determining the direction that the development takes. Of course, not everyone can be a part of this technical alpha. Oh no no, this … Read More »

You ever played an old game that you thought was too ahead of its time for the technology available? What if we could take previous games and juice them up a little bit? Keep the core gameplay but turn the dial up to 11… Here are some examples of games and the improvements we’d make that we’ve come up with. State of Emergency Riots are fun. At least, they are in games. Lots of independent NPCs interacting with large environments to create chaos. That was the vision for the PS2/Xbox game State of Emergency. Unfortunately, the NPCs were mostly headless … Read More »
