You may have seen us report earlier this week that there was a rumor circulating that Codemasters were planning on resurrecting the much enjoyed Micro Machines series of games. It is with delight that we received confirmation today that the rumors were true; Micro Machines are back in Micro Machines World Series!!!  Whenever something considered a classic is re-imagined it is always expected to deliver an experience as good, if not better than the original. No pressure, Codemasters. So what can we expect? One of the most enjoyable aspects of the original game were the environments you were racing around. From jumping ... Read More »
In a blog post VooFoo Studios - developer of the excellent top down racer Mantis Burn Racing - revealed their future plans for the title. In our review we praised its online aspirations; there's every chance VooFoo could build a vibrant online racing community, and this forthcoming update makes big strides towards that future. “We’re committed to supporting Mantis Burn Racing® long-term and we want to encourage and support the multiplayer community, so we’re really pleased that [this] update brings some notable improvements to the online experience for our players.” ~ Mark Williams, VooFoo Studio’s Technology Director Chief among the changes coming ... Precision. Accuracy. Millimetre-perfect. There's no room for error in Ride 2, and that will come as a shock if you've never picked up a bike racing sim before. With four wheels, you can graze the Armco, squeeze down the inside, dish out the odd tap here or there, and still not lose more than half a tenth in a lap. Try it on one of the lovingly recreated machines in Ride 2, and you're history. Or smeared across the geography. Motorcycle racing is hard. You might have more racing lines through some corners, but you better pick one, and you ... Read More »
The grind is real. But honestly, what did we expect from an RPG? No, you've not wandered into the wrong review by mistake. We've ploughed more hours than we care to think about into Mantis Burn Racing, and if ever there was a simple-looking game that hides its considerable depths, Mantis Burn Racing is it. This is a (more or less) top down racer in the grand tradition, tracing its heritage back to Up 'N Down, Skidmarks, Super Sprint and other classics of that ilk. So, you know what to expect: light goes green, floor it, power slide maniacally around bends and ... Read More »
Rumours have swirled as to what racers can expect from Forza Horizon 3’s upcoming Smoking Tires DLC (or ‘Smoking Tyres’, for UK readers). Now, one Twitter user has found evidence in the Japanese Xbox store of what the DLC’s line-up will feature, just before an expected announcement from the devs. Players already had suspicions about some of the cars being featured, and if this leak proves right, it’s confirmed – you’ll be able to drive across the Australian terrain in the GTA Spano and the all-new Aston Martin Vulcan. https://twitter.com/cosmo3900/status/782912256304517120 https://twitter.com/cosmo3900/status/782909104511606784 The full DLC line-up will be: 2016 Aston Martin ... Normally, we wait for word from the publisher before confirming rumour but thanks to the power of the Internet and an enterprising young man with one of those new-fangled phone cameras, we're ready to announce this as an almost-certainty: Forza Horizon 3 will be getting a  Free Demo ahead of the game's launch on 27 September. The Horizon franchise has a pretty good track record when it comes to demos, and - whilst not exactly surprising - this news is welcome. You won't have to wait until 27 September (or 23 September if you pre-order the £79.99 'Ultimate' version of the ... Read More »

Obliteracers, from indie developers Varkian Empire, AKA Space Dust Studios, is a game that does exactly what it says on the tin: you race, you obliterate. That's about it – and we have absolutely no problem with that. It's not that it's the greatest (at times, it doesn't even feel entirely competent), but what it has in spades is fun. It's worth pointing out that this colourful combat racer is  slightly easier than its more famous cousin Mario Kart. In fact, unlike most racing games, Obliteracers kicks off with a survival mode, rather than focusing on time trials, fastest laps, ... Read More »
