Human: Fall Flat is a physics based puzzle platformer all about a human falling flat. A lot. More than pretty much any other game. Whether it be tripping off of ledges or as a result of being smacked around, needless to say, you'll be doing a lot of falling. Each level challenges players to find creative solutions to progress through the area using the objects around you, the laws of physics and a bit of initiative. The left and right trigger controls your left and right hand respectively, allowing you to grab onto objects in the environment. Initially, you'll be ... Read More »
As you may be able to tell from the title, this isn't a HD remaster. This isn't a 'definitive' edition either. It is its own game, well deserved within it's own right, that it modestly has the exact same title as the original. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap is a 2D Platformer/ RPG hybrid game, reworked from the ground up, from the original title in the very late eighties. Every single facet of this title has completely been redesigned and recreated in a gorgeous cartoon style, with vibrant colours and pretty scenery: Think of the original as a sketch ... Read More »
Developer Bitmap Bureau seem to have something of an obsession. Now that's not a bad thing. Some people are obsessed with their favourite sports team. Personally I'm quite obsessed with fish finger sandwiches. Bitmap Bureau's obsession is a little stranger though. They seem to like the number eight far too much. 88 Heroes is a platforming game like none you have seen before. As the name suggests you have 88 Heroes to play with. There are also 88 levels, each of which must be completed in 88 seconds and you have 88 minutes to complete all of the levels. Oh ... Read More »
We've all been there, a game angers or frustrates you to the point of throwing a controller across the room. Some games are primed to do just this such as Trials or Super Meat Boy. While Metrico teeters very close to this point, the anger is more directed at you for not been able to see the solution that is right in front of you. Metrico is a combination of platform and puzzle, which also includes a little bit of maths. Well, sort of. The feel of the game is very mathematical. You are given angles and percentages to help you ... Read More »
There is a saying that says "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."  People will often imitate their idols or someone/something that excels in the way they do things, possibly without even trying.  Toby: The Secret Mine, created by Lukas Navratil and published by Headup Games, takes a lot of inspiration off of games such as Limbo and Nihilumbra but not without seeming too much like a lesser polished, although still enjoyable, version of its predecessors. At it's core, Toby: The Secret Mine is a platformer and puzzle game at its core.  Right from the first time you start the game, you ... Read More »
The platforming genre was once a dominant force. It saw its peak in the 16-bit era before a the landscape changed and turned towards more complex, compelling games. In recent years, however, the indie scene has delivered a successful rebirth for the genre. And Mekazoo is a fine example of this. This is the first game from developer The Good Mood Creators. That’s a promising name for any dev and that’s exactly the kind of mood in which Mekazoo puts you. You explore fully 3D worlds, from a 2D perspective as your adventure begins - as an armadillo. Waking up to ... Read More »
When a developer is called Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team you better believe we're looking forward to their first Xbox One game. And we won't have long to wait, as Rise & Shine will launch on Xbox One on 13 January 2017. Rise & Shine promises to fuse platformer, bullet hell and arcade shooter into something new. "Rise & Shine is a true “think and gun” that combines elements of arcade shooters, bullet hells, and puzzle platformers to create a new blend of strategy and viscera. Switch between Shine’s add-ons to solve puzzles that redefine what bullets can do. Guide ... Read More »
Are you finding platformers are becoming a little tedious? Is the fact that your head is permanently fixed to the same old body something of a bore? Well the people at Adult Swim Games clearly feel the same, and have created the uniquely absurd platformer Headlander to rid you of these problems. As we have heard so many times before, you are the last human. Well, human head anyway. As Headlander opens you wake from a deep sleep slightly dazed and very confused by the fact that you are now just a head in a bucket. Your only companion is a friendly, if ... Read More »
It was just a matter of time – now for the six people who bought ReCore, prepare to for a HDR update. The announcement came – where else? – on Twitter, where both Microsoft Studios’ Shannon Loftis and Xbox’s Mike Ybarra both confirmed that the game will get a graphical upgrade when played on Xbox One S. https://twitter.com/XboxQwik/status/803050270200467456 HDR – high dynamic range – gives greater colour and contrast to images, essentially making them a whole lot richer and pleasing on the eye. The downside? You’ll need a TV capable of rendering 4K images and an Xbox One S (Sorry, ... Read More »
