We always thought that if cross-play gaming were to become a success, it’d probably begin with a game like Minecraft. It seems that Minecraft’s developer Mojang agree. There was a lot of buzz around cross-play a couple of months back, with developers and senior gaming figures all saying what a great idea it was – the studio behind Rocket League literally said they were ready for Xbox One-PS4 cross-play the moment Sony gave the nod. But has that nod been given to another studio? Minecraft brings everybody together, including competing devices! Realms supports cross-platform play, & there's a free trial! … Read More »

Xbox games on PC. PC games appearing in the Xbox App. It’s all very confusing for our little brains. So when we saw that Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft – the PC-only card game behemoth from Blizzard – had appeared in someone’s Achievements list on xbox.com, we almost scrolled on by. Almost. Hearthstone might be a PC game, but it’s not a Windows 10 game so it has no achievements. And whilst the Xbox App now has games hubs for some of the most popular PC titles – and that includes Hearthstone – we wouldn’t expect to see Hearthstone in an Achievements … Read More »

Looks like Microsoft may have gotten a little carried away with itself.  Microsoft has pulled back a statement they originally made about their Play Anywhere program.  Microsoft originally released a presser stating that “every new title” would be part of the Play Anywhere program.  This statement actually applied only to the games that were shown during their E3 2016 press conference.  The program will encompass select Microsoft Studios titles and possibly more developers to come. The known list of titles from E3 that are part of Play Anywhere are as follows: Ark: Survival Evolved Crackdown 3 Cuphead Forza Horizon 3 … Read More »

Good, so are the game developers Psyonix as they announce today that… Rocket League is now cross-platform compatible on Xbox One and PC You read it right. Ori and the Blind Forest is one of those games that’s beloved by a pretty large sector of the Xbox community, from Phil Spencer down. It’s easy to see why – the enchanting exclusive is a beautifully rendered platformer that plays like the complex dream of a genius. And for Xboxers and their PC gaming brethren, the game, from Moon Studios, has been download-only. That meant plenty of gamers who don’t download, bro, were missing out on one of the best adventures on the Microsoft platform. Until now. Now Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition – which includes bonus … Read More »

Fans have been crying out for Fallout 4 mods to come to Xbox One – it was one of the main selling points when the game was first revealed. So far, mods have been the preserve of PC gamers. That’s according to Bethesda’s official Twitterings… We’ve hit 1 million Mod downloads already on PC! Console coming soon, closed Beta for #Xbox Mods after #FarHarbor https://t.co/Mvp2BID8Pn — BethesdaGameStudios (@BethesdaStudios) May 9, 2016 One million mod downloads in such a … Read More »

Bad news for Overwatch fans hoping to play the Blizzard FPS with those on other systems – Jeffrey Kaplan, the game’s director, has put the absolute kybosh on it. For now. Overwatch was already listed as a definite no for cross-platforming back in November 2015. Then Microsoft popped up earlier this year to say they’ve figured out how it could be done, suddenly it seemed like the perfect game to join Rocket League as a cross-platform-ready title. During those heady, golden hours, anything seemed possible. But while excited gamers gasped, the reception from those in the industry was if not … Read More »

Cross-play is one of those holy grails of gaming – like finally getting some worthwhile high-end loot drops in The Division, or finding Mankrik’s wife. Microsoft have made a pretty big deal about its cross-play intentions, which would allow Xboxers to game with those on PC and Playstation 4. And now it’s ready. That comes straight from the mouth of ID@Xbox’s European chief, Agostino Simonetta. When he was asked by little-known gaming site Eurogamer (?) whether cross-play was good to go, Simonetta was pretty firm in his response: Absolutely – we’re ready. Rocket League is the first game – and … Read More »

Dino-hunters, prepare yourselves. Beloved N64 series Turok is being remastered for the Xbox One. This was confirmed in a tweet by Night Dive Studios, who are looking to bring both Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil to a new generation of hunters. @AlexSGregory We’re currently planning on bringing Turok and Turok 2 to @Xbox — Night Dive Studios (@NightDiveStudio) March 25, 2016 This may, in part, be a direct assault on dino-themed MMO, Ark: Survival Evolved, who have capitalised on the fact that very few games feature fearsome terrible lizards (We’re not counting Lego Jurassic Park, and … Read More »
