Former Konami President Takes New Job – As President of Kojima Productions

Having previously headed up Konami Europe, Shinji Hirano is now taking the helm at Kojima Productions. With no official statement being released, the news was actually discovered on LinkedIn – where Hirano now lists his new position, alongside this job description: Responsible for managing extremely talented creative teams as one single entity and providing the leadership to make company successful as one of the greatest creative studios in the world. And he’s not the only Konami veteran to make it onto Kojima Productions’ team: they also scooped up ex Konami concept artist Yoji Shinkawa and producer Kenichiro Imaizumi earlier in … Read More »

Konami Stops Production On All Triple A Games Except PES

There’s big changes afoot at Konami. The studio has plans for no more triple A titles to be produced there apart from Pro Evolution Soccer and worldwide technology director Julien Merceron has left the company. It is been said that Merceron has left the company due to his increasing unhappiness at the direction that the studio is taking. This direction is to lead them away entirely from the production of console games so that they can concentrate their efforts and resources on the development of mobile games. This does have another implication as well. It means that there will be … Read More »

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Review

Metal Gear Solid still sits proudly on my shelf, having reigned supreme as my favourite game on the Playstation. I last completed it in January 2010, in one sitting, no skipped cutscenes or comms and no saves. It was a glorious 12 hours that was witnessed by friends, both gamers and non-gamers, in a tiny university accommodation room after a particularly boozy night before. There was no better (or worse) way to finish the game than to have the final cutscene, which was real video footage rather than game rendered, crash the Playstation 2 I was playing on. To me, … Read More »

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has GOATS

Looking forward to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain? Well if what you knew so far wasn’t enough, you’re gonna be even more hyped after this. Hideo Kojima previously told us that Mother Base in MGS 5 would feature a Zoo, where you could keep the animals you so nicely picked up using the Fulton Recovery System. What you might not have known though is that in the game, you can summon back a flock of combat trained goats to use as a mobile cover. As a minor fan of the game, this brings my hype meter up alot. Will … Read More »

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 Trailer

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has a new E3 trailer directed by, surprise, surprise, Hideo Kojima. The trailer showcases Hojima’s cinematic flair while giving glimpses of characters and events that will feature in the game. The Phantom Pain could be the last in the Metal Gear series directed by Hideo Kojima and developed by Kojima Productions after reported “power struggles” between Kojima and Kojima Productions with its publisher Konami. Konami have stated they’re planning to make a follow up to Metal Gear Solid V, however. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain releases on 1st September this year. For more news, reviews and competitions, join Xbox … Read More »

Metal Gear Solid V – New Details

The latest Official Xbox Magazine is out and within it’s glossy cover is a 16-page feature on Metal Gear Sold V: The Phantom Pain. The details of this feature have found their way onto the internet and we’ve gone over them and picked out the bits of information that are the most interesting, whilst also being the least spoilerific. Firstly, the game is open-world, but instead of one whole area it’s separated into two sections: one set north of Kabul in Afghanistan, and another set in the Angola-Zaire Border Region. There’ll also be elements of the game taking place in the Seychelles, where Snake’s … Read More »
