Rise of the Tiamat, the first of five free expansions for the free-to-play game Neverwinter, is available to download right now. There’s an all-new adventure zone to be explored called “The Well of Dragons”, where players will have to battle the harbingers of Tiamat, queen of the dragons. Updates have also been released alongside the DLC which improve player experience, including an onscreen mini-map, adjustments to queuing, performance updates and more. So far, free-to-play games that make money from in-game purchases largely have been confined to mobile platforms and PCs. Game consoles have largely been driven by the “pay-to-own” model, whether that’s a £40 disc in a box or a £2 download. That won’t last.
