EGX 2018 will be no small event, with 80,000 people expected this year and 1,500 screens of interactive entertainment. It covers all areas of video games and gaming culture and game wise everything from massive blockbuster triple-A titles to smaller innovative indie games. We love Titanfall – I mean, guns, explosions, giant robots, guns that aim themselves… what’s not to like? And you’ll see from our hands on at EGX, we are loving Titanfall 2 just as much. Of course, what Titanfall lacked was a coherent single player campaign – a few multi player stages shoved together with a chat track just didn’t cut it. This is a wrong developer Respawn plans to right with Titanfall 2, which features a full stand alone campaign mode. Not much has been said about the campaign, but in the last few minutes Respawn have unleashed a cinematic trailer … Read More »

We’ve always had a soft spot for Rebellion’s Sniper Elite franchise – a plucky underdog that, game after game, squares up against its triple A shooter rivals. Despite each game’s flaws, the Sniper Elites have always been fun to play, with melodramatic storylines, jumping out of the hedgerows to stab Nazis and, of course, those x-ray cam kill shots. All things considered, what Rebellion’s accomplished over the years with a budget the faction of the size of the big studios is remarkable. Our personal favourite, Sniper Elite V2, was a tense, urban affair, while Sniper Elite III opened up sight lines but proved … Read More »

So for many of us who discovered gaming during the 80’s and 90’s 2D gaming will always hold a special place in our hearts. This brings us to a new game from The Square Enix Collective called Forgotton Anne. Created by Copenhagen-based developer ThroughLine Games, Forgotton Ann is a cinematic 2D story driven adventure game. The game takes place in a place known as the Forgotton Realm – a place filled with the discarded and missing items from the human world. Such as toys, socks and letters. The game finds the titular character Anne and Master Bonku as the only humans … Read More »

In our time so far at EGX we have played a boat load of fantastic games, one of the highlights so far for us is Little Nightmares. This immersive freaky title really adds the chill factor straight off the bat. Mechanically it is simple which allows you to focus more on the experience rather than button bashing, you play what seems like a young girl trying to survive from a rather ugly, fat chef thats preferred delicacy is kids!! The demo at the stand was quite short but all the team the managed a go agreed the same thing – … Read More »

We’ve made no secret that we’re excited for Angry Mob Games‘ competitive platform fighter Brawlout – and after yesterday’s hands on, doubly so. And so we couldn’t pass up the chance to speak directly with Angry Mob’s Bogdan here at the show. First up, everyone wants to know when the game’s coming out. “We’re launching on Steam Early access first, in early 2017,” explains Bogdan. “And console editions will follow a little later.” Bogdan went on to explain that ID@Xbox are keen for Brawlout to be part of the game preview programme on Xbox, but no decision has been made on that. Here … Read More »

Hands on with Titanfall 2 at EGX confirms our excitement for the forthcoming EA sequel and our fears. Combat is still as satisfyingly chaotic and fast-paced as always. Wall running is now even more an aerial ballet than before; chaining wall runs and leaps together to escape, evade or attack is as engaging and compelling as ever. Weapons are satisfyingly beefy, and your own mortality leaves every foray towards an enemy-held hardpoint a careful balance of risk and reward. And still, Titans take far too long to unlock. Despite capturing and amping hardpoints like it as going out of fashion, and … Read More »

We’ve all seen the trailers, we’ve all anguished long and hard over the musical accompaniment, but now Gears 4 is almost with us, and we’ve been hands on with an early mission in the single player mode. First impressions are very strong. It feels like Gears, reassuringly – though some might say disappointingly – so. But, as befits the new generation, it feels improved. Fighting alongside fellow Gears, we’re immediately faced by a Locust foe that’s smarter and more aggressive than before. This time round, the Locust are more organised, better at using fields of fire to isolate and take down … Read More »
