Technology – the ultimate game-changer. Constantly evolving at unprecedented speed, it’s taken us to great heights. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes that technological growth, spins it around and flips it on its head. It’s 2029. Humans and technology share a symbiotic relationship, with cyber-robotic augmentations now a way of life. It started with helping the disabled walk, offering amputees new limbs, helping the blind ‘see’ through augmented robotic enhancements. It did not end there. It’s two years after the events of the previous game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, with our protagonist Adam ‘I didn’t ask for this’ Jensen now working … Read More »

Actually, the phrase he uses is “piss-coloured”. Executive art director for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and now Mankind Divided, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête recently spoke to OXM on the art style for the new game. “So HR [Human Revolution] was all about the enlightenment era of Transhumanism, which is where our black and gold palette came from, right? It was because black and gold was very much like Renaissance paintings. Now the world is more afraid of Transhumanism – so our gold and black palette has taken a back step with it. The new order is this corporate feudalism thing, so now the influence is … Read More »

Looks like mankind will stay undivided for a bit longer. In a post on the Deus Ex website, David Anfossi (The Head of Edios Montreal) has announced that upcoming Steampunk-RPG Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been delayed till August 2016. There’s a new trailer out for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided narrated by the man himself, Adam Jensen. Those of you with a disposition towards the philosophical contemplation of what makes us human may find the trailer a time to reflect; if you like seeing rad hand aug’s and guys getting cut up by blade-arms you’re in for a treat too. After the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution Adam is now a covert operative kitted out with the bleeding edge of weaponry and augmentations. He has to work in a world that’s split between those with and those without augmentations; his actions, and who he … Read More »

One of the criticisms levelled at the excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution was its ending: without getting into spoilers, players were asked at the very end of the final level to pick between a selection of options which led to specific outcomes. The biggest complaint about this was how throughout the rest of the game Human Revolution gave you seemingly important decisions, yet the consequences of your choices never particularly came to bear any influence at the end. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided you won’t be faced with a ‘choose your ending’ at the culmination of the game, however it’ll still be your actions … Read More »
