It seemed inevitable that Gears of War 4 would feature cross-play across all game modes – a fact that was confirmed by Microsoft during their E3 2016 press conference. Only, it turns out that’s not entirely true. With the arrival of the first Play Anywhere title to feature competitive multiplayer, gamers were gearing up to play with and against others on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. After all, cross-platform play is one of the most requested additions in console gaming, with everyone from Rocket League to Final Fantasy getting in on the action. So on the one hand, … Read More »

Indie game Super Dungeon Bros. finally has a release date. The four-player brawler will thrust you into procedurally generated dungeons in the fantasy land of Rökheim. The game is released on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam on 1st November 2016. In it, you’ll play as one of four bro-tastic heavy metal heroes who face off against hordes of the undead spread across three unique worlds. These worlds give a clue to the tone of the game. There’s underground dungeon Cryptheim, Chillheim – a brewery built on a geyser, and the jungle world of Bogheim. Expect serious challenges as you and … Read More »

We always thought that if cross-play gaming were to become a success, it’d probably begin with a game like Minecraft. It seems that Minecraft’s developer Mojang agree. There was a lot of buzz around cross-play a couple of months back, with developers and senior gaming figures all saying what a great idea it was – the studio behind Rocket League literally said they were ready for Xbox One-PS4 cross-play the moment Sony gave the nod. But has that nod been given to another studio? Minecraft brings everybody together, including competing devices! Realms supports cross-platform play, & there's a free trial! … Read More »

Cross-platform play is one of those holy grails in gaming – we’ve seen it before, rarely, but that’s mostly been limited to consoles and PC. What the fans really want is for the two dominant forces in console gaming to get together and allow gamers across the spectrum play together. Microsoft have said they’re up for it. A number of developers have said they’re up for it. Even Psyonix, the studio behind the fantastic Rocket League, have said they could make it happen within hours of the ok. There’s only one thing holding it all back: Sony. Now, in an interview … Read More »

Ok, so that title could seem kind of misleading, it’s not really the actual console itself that we’ll be referring to here but rather the team behind the Xbox One. Obviously owning an Xbox One puts you in a very good place for gaming. The online service may cost around £40 a year but you get a lot for your money with Xbox Live The servers are solid; sure they are targeted from time to time and have the occasional failure, but all in all they serve their purpose exceptionally well and generally hold up better than the competition. Of course, one … Read More »

There are certain game franchises that transcend the common place arguments of which gaming platform is better. One such franchise is Final Fantasy. The series has been enchanting fans since it’s very first appearance way back when in 1987 and now it appears that the series’ latest game, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, could be coming to Xbox One. What has previously prevented this title coming to the Xbox One would seemingly be the lack of cross-platform functionality the console offers. However with Microsoft recently announcing cross-play between Xbox One and Windows 10, as well as an apparent willingness … Read More »

Good, so are the game developers Psyonix as they announce today that… Rocket League is now cross-platform compatible on Xbox One and PC You read it right. Cross-platform gaming is now finally a thing on the Xbox. From today, Rocket Leaguers on both Xbox One and PC will be able to play against each other online. Cross-play is one of those holy grails of gaming – like finally getting some worthwhile high-end loot drops in The Division, or finding Mankrik’s wife. Microsoft have made a pretty big deal about its cross-play intentions, which would allow Xboxers to game with those on PC and Playstation 4. And now it’s ready. That comes straight from the mouth of ID@Xbox’s European chief, Agostino Simonetta. When he was asked by little-known gaming site Eurogamer (?) whether cross-play was good to go, Simonetta was pretty firm in his response: Absolutely – we’re ready. Rocket League is the first game – and … Read More »

Perpetually-in-Beta title Fable Legends gets a new update – number 19 – which brings a vicious new creature that Villains can unleash upon hapless Heroes. The White Balverine is an Elite creature that unleashes swift, high damaging attacks. Lionhead Creature Designer (best job ever!) David Bridle recommends Heroes face this villainous creature in a group rather than going mano-a-Balverino in one-on-one combat. So, if villains get this fearsome foe in this update, what do heroes get? New shopping opportunities – and who doesn’t love that? There is a new Outfit Shop in Brightlodge selling new armour for your Heroes, and … Read More »
