The Mafia series has been a solid nod towards the Italian mob genre since its original inception in 2002, but with the third game in this mobster trilogy takes you away from the usual cliché mob antics. Mafia III is a sharp change of pace compared to the familiar Godfather-esque territory of the previous games, as you take on the role of Lincoln Clay – a black Vietnam special forces veteran. Lincoln has just got back from the war and is welcomed back by his adopted brother – a member of the “Black Mob”. That’s important because Mafia 3 doesn’t shy away from the … Read More »

Mafia 3 was released just a few days ago – but that hasn’t stopped it becoming the best-selling game in the series. The third instalment of the open-world gangster trilogy had a rocky start in the run up to release, with choppy frame-rates on the PC and not nearly as much buzz as publisher 2K would’ve liked, despite a heavy marketing push. But you can’t keep a good gangster down, and Mafia 3 has managed to beat Mafia 2’s week one sales record by a staggering 58.7%. However good those figures are – and developers Hangar 13 will be happy … Read More »

We’re only on our third mission when we realise we’re in trouble. Our dogged insistence on relying on the tactics that served us so well in 2012’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown / Enemy Within has led us to this place, and our beleaguered resistance fighters are unlikely to get out of this one alive. Farewell, brave pawns. Your time was all too brief. XCOM 2 – eschewing any other moniker for the first time in this laser-squad-inspired franchise’s 22 years – takes the 2012 reboot and improves upon it in every way. It’s tougher, more brutal, deeper, more involving, better looking and more … Read More »

It has been almost ten years since Bioshock exploded onto the scene and instantly became a classic of the FPS genre. With its iconic Big Daddies and sweet as mud little sisters, it grabbed the attention of gamers and the following two games, Bioshock 2 and Bioshock Infinite have only tightened that grip. So now is the time that 2K have decided is appropriate to release a remastered collection of all three games in one neat little package – Bioshock: The Collection. The remaster debate is a sticky one. There are those who relish the chance to revisit the games that they … Read More »

Yesterday we finally got a look at the debut game-play trailer for WWE 2k17. From the below trailer you can see that this latest instalment from 2k is shaping up to be the best game in the series for a number of years and is surely going to be a ‘Title’ wrestling fans won’t want to miss. The trailers main focus is naturally the return of the much missed backstage brawl area. This is showcased by a vicious match up between returning superstar (and pre-order exclusive) Goldberg and the games cover star Brock Lesnar. The game-play trailer features a whole host of superstars. Including a brief appearance from … Read More »

Would you kindly return to Rapture? It’s not long until the release of Bioshock: The Collection and alongside improved graphics fit for current-gen consoles (that’s 1080p/60fps on all platforms), we’ve now learnt that there’s a whole behind-the-scenes documentary hidden within the games. The Bioshock trilogy is one of the best-loved shooters of all time, thanks in part to its stunning visuals, creepy settings and absolute mind-messing stories that cover everything from neuro-linguistic programming to the multiverse. So as you’d expect from the game, developed by the now defunct Irrational Games, there’s quite a story to tell here. And gamers will … Read More »

Battleborn didn’t get off to a great start, did it? Despite solid reviews (you can read ours right here), its thunder was stolen by the Overwatch beta that dropped just a couple of days after the game’s release, and despite being a different genre and different playstyle, it’s never managed to shake off comparisons to Blizzard’s shooter. But that doesn’t mean it’s game over for 2K’s colourful and characterful MOBA. During an earnings call, the publisher’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, said: While the game launched to solid reviews, its performance in the market has been below our expectations. We think there … Read More »
