Gaming just got even better with Windows 10. Play great games optimized specifically for Windows 10, including Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta, Killer Instinct, and Gears of War Ultimate Edition, while using Xbox accessories like the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller. From the best casual games to a new generation of PC gaming, Windows 10 is built for the games you love.

Major Nelson has always been a voice for Xbox.  When it comes to what’s new and how to improve, it always seems to come from Mr. Larry Hryb.  With uploading and recording becoming such a big part of gaming, he put out some tips to make life easier. There are two Game DVR features that are performance sensitive, and Microsoft has given gamers explicit control over both: background recording and support for full screen games. Both features are controlled in the Game bar settings panel (when you’re in a game, hit Win+G, then click the settings icon to show settings). … Read More »

According to a forum post by The Coalition, a small Xbox One title update will iron out the ‘hitching’ issues some players have experienced in the early part of Gears of War 4  multi-player matches. Hitching is a short period of extreme lag, and this small (218MB) update should solve the problem for Xbox One users. A Title Update will be available for Gears of War 4 today. Last week head of Xbox division Phil Spencer met with Austrailian site PC Authority for an interview, with the main topic of conversation primarily focusing on Xbox’s latest initiative Xbox Play Anywhere. This new initiative is aiming to bridge the gap between gamers from both PC and Xbox communities. Xbox Play Anywhere is an initiative allowing  consumers to cross-buy their games, therefore allowing  you to play your games on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. There will also be a feature to allow you to retain any progress you made in those games when you switch platform. For the time being … Read More »

Inside every Xbox One lurks Windows 10 – Microsoft’s all-encompassing operating system that supports the Universal Windows Platform. This means – in theory – any app that uses UWP can run on any Windows 10 device, be it PC, laptop, tablet, phone, or Xbox One. We’ve picked out a few of our favourites. VideoLAN VideoLan – or VLC – is one of the most fully featured video players around, with a support for a wide range of file formats and a whole host of tricks – like electronically boosting volume beyond 100%, useful when that atmospheric soundtrack is just a little … Read More »

VLC has been among one of the most versatile and user friendly media players to use on Windows PC’s.  Xbox One may be next to receive VLC as it has now is UWP and has been placed on the Windows Store. The announcement was made by VLC’s developer Hugo Beauzée-Luyssen on Twitter yesterday. #VLC for #XboxOne has been submitted to the store, hopefully it will land in your living rooms in a few days! — Hugo Beauzée-Luyssen (@beauzeh) October 3, 2016 The UWP version of VLC notably supports UPnP and network shares browsing, support for HTTPS and adaptive streaming, hardware decoding, … Read More »

We’re big fans of – it’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to share your game clips with the outside world. Just this week, the XboxDVR boffins announced a new feature in Beta that could see them start on a journey towards becoming an all-round Xbox hub. If you’re signed up to XboxDVR – and we recommend you give it a go – you can use the new achievements integration to view, track, and share your Achievement and GamerScore progress. You can also view any achievement to download its high-resolution achievement art for use as phone and desktop … Read More »

This morning we brought you news that the new Gears of War 4 campaign gameplay trailer was to be released at 1:00 pm UK time today. We were, it’s safe to say, pretty excited. It’s also safe to say we were not disappointed. The trailer – which features nearly seven minutes of gameplay footage – is a feast for the eyes. But don’t take our word for it – check it out for yourself! After a little exposition as the Gears head towards an old hydro electric damn (check out stunning lighting effects, and the way the wind moves the branches … Read More »

A month ago, we brought you news that Microsoft acquired the interactive livestreaming service, Beam. So it’s virtually self-evident that they would eventually bring the service to their Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and release an app for Xbox One. Beam allows its viewers to interact in new-fangled ways such as allowing the streamer to control certain aspects of a particular game, whilst the viewer may get to control another facet. This feature alone, and the fact that Beam has better technology backing it, makes it a more stable platform than twitch, so we’re undoubtedly convinced that Microsoft are in this for the end-game. Twitch: Get your … Read More »

Update: Since we brought you this story, Nexbox’s creator has confirmed Microsoft has asked that Xbox platform support be removed before UWP certification will be granted. It looks like we’ll just need to get our old consoles out of storage for the time being. Last week we brought you the news that Nesbox, an emulator which can play NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and Nintendo Gameboy Colour / Advanced games, is currently undergoing UWP certification. Well, according to the app’s creator, that process is complete and now it’s just a matter of time before a UWP version of Nesbox appears … Read More »
