We will preview Game Preview games, or games that are otherwise unfinished. No score will be provided on previews of Game Preview or other unfinished titles.

The grind is real. But honestly, what did we expect from an RPG? No, you’ve not wandered into the wrong review by mistake. We’ve ploughed more hours than we care to think about into Mantis Burn Racing – out on 12 October on Xbox One – and if ever there was a simple-looking game that hides its considerable depths, Mantis Burn Racing is it. This is a (more or less) top down racer in the grand tradition, tracing its heritage back to Up ‘N Down, Skidmarks, Super Sprint and other classics of that ilk. So, you know what to expect: light … Read More »

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Brawlout is just the latest in an ever expanding line of Smash Brothers clones, and whilst that is true to some extent when you look on the surface, beneath that lies a whole different beast entirely… You see, Brawlout is aiming for a more skill determined playstyle as opposed to Smash’s sheer insanity. To turn a phrase; Smash is for show, Brawlout is for a pro. Fortunately, it won’t take you long reach that higher skill level. Taking on the developers Angry Mob Games at their EGX stand, I was swiftly handed my ass … Read More »

So next Tuesday we will see the release of Destiny’s biggest expansion since the Taken King dropped last year. And with a week to go until release we are already seeing leaked footage of the game-play we can expect to see when the expansion drops into orbit on the 20th. Over the course of 3 videos we are introduced to a mission to capture the Vostok Observatory. Each video is roughly 1-2 minutes long and naturally these videos will contain SPOILERS. Part 1 The first video shows our player fighting his way up a mountain side before taking on some Fallen scum. … Read More »

Last week, Studio Wildcard surprised us all with an expansion to ARK: Survival Evolved. ARK: Scorched Earth is a fantasy (like the original Ark isn’t fantasy?) version of the original survival experience. Mixed with some of the original dinosaurs are some weird and wonderful creatures that could only exist in the fevered minds of the games creators, and many from myth and legend; Rock elementals, dragons, huge beetles, small vultures, and lots more. Just because we’re tough as nails, and have practically lived inside ARK since it joined the Game Preview programme, we explored Scorched Earth in single player mode … Read More »

Yesterday we finally got a look at the debut game-play trailer for WWE 2k17. From the below trailer you can see that this latest instalment from 2k is shaping up to be the best game in the series for a number of years and is surely going to be a ‘Title’ wrestling fans won’t want to miss. The trailers main focus is naturally the return of the much missed backstage brawl area. This is showcased by a vicious match up between returning superstar (and pre-order exclusive) Goldberg and the games cover star Brock Lesnar. The game-play trailer features a whole host of superstars. Including a brief appearance from … Read More »

Late yesterday Hanger 13 and 2K Studios released a new video that gave us a look at a new family in the Mafia universe. Studio Head and Game Director, Hanaden Blackman, and his team give us a brief introduction to the Marcano family and what we can expect from them in the new game. It is clear from this trailer that the Marcanos are going to be a big part of the new game, having run the criminal underground of New Bordeaux (a fictionalised version of New Orleans) for decades. With the ruthless Don Sal Marcanos at it’s helm. A highlight from … Read More »

How do you summarise Slime Rancher for someone that has never heard of the game? There are a couple of ways you could go about this. ‘Beautifully animated’ is one way. Or how about, ‘A fun pick up and play title that isn’t too mentally tasking?’ Those are definitely ways you could describe Slime Rancher, the Monomi Park developed title that’s just entered the Xbox Game Preview programme However, you could also explain it to friends and family a lot like this: “Well there are slimes and… There are these little coloured blob things that… So you go around collecting carrots, chicken and other stuff to … Read More »

Happy Dungeons is developed by Toy Logic and has just been released onto Xbox One via Game Preview. Interestingly, Happy Dungeons – a sequel of sorts to Xbox 360 title Happy Wars – is currently free to play, although right now you have the option to buy the Founders Bundle which comes with 250 Happy Jewels (in game currency). Happy Dungeons is a co operative action RPG that can be played online or played locally with up to three other people. This story-driven family friendly RPG has four difficulties: Human, Hero, Death and Insane. The aim of the story is to rescue the princess … Read More »

You ever just thought to yourself “I know what I want: Smash Bros without all the licensed characters”? If so, you’ve been asking for Rivals of Aether. More than just a clone or a carbon copy, though, Rivals of Aether understands the formula of Smash Bros better than other contenders like Playstation All-Stars or… Kung-Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legend or whatever the hell crap title that game had. Rivals of Aether is a cut above those games and, more than that, a deserving alternative to the Nintendo powerhouse. In fact, when comes to learning how to play the game, … Read More »
