If you think that the current realistic versions of Tomb Raider are a bit too serious, and want to go back to the cheesier games of old, today just might be your day. Major Nelson has took to Twitter, as he usually does, to reveal the next addition to the backwards compatibility program: Tomb Raider Underworld is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today https://t.co/qPMRNs2ZLopic.twitter.com/SKClshDgo0 — 💬 Larry Hryb (@majornelson) July 27, 2017 Tomb Raider: Underworld was the sequel to Tomb Raider's first reboot, the 2006 release Tomb Raider: Legend, and saw Lara embark on a trip through Norse Mythology ... Speedrunners have been going for well over around two and a half decades, with players competing to complete games in the fastest possible time. We've certainly moved on from the early days of Doom mods and trials, but it's only in the past few years that scene has become as culturally accepted as it is now. You can thank the rise of YouTube and Twitch for that. Of course, this burgeoning community has presented an opportunity for game developers to market to the specific speedrunning audience. One such game is Deadcore, a first person platformer with a heavy emphasis on ... Read More »

One of the gaming highlights of 2016 was the return of one of the FPS genre's founding fathers: DOOM. The reboot took what people loved about the original games and modernised it for current gamers. It. Kicked. Ass. Over a year on, Bethesda aren't finished with DOOM just yet, and have released Update 6.66. You know, because the game is about Hell? Funny. The update itself is bringing a number of improvements to multiplayer and the SnapMap feature, but that's not all. Firstly, the season pass has now been retired, with all DLC packs now available for all players, for ... Read More »
After the dizzying heights of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition last Thursday, Microsoft were going to have to dig deep to try and top that announcement. With four games being added today, they've given it a good go. Let's take a look at what Major Nelson has tweeted: Costume Quest 2, Virtua Fighter 2, Quantum Conundrum & Frontlines: FoW are coming to Xbox One Back Compat today https://t.co/qPMRNrLoTQpic.twitter.com/eNIuOnmIP0 — 💬 Larry Hryb (@majornelson) July 18, 2017 Costume Quest 2 is already available on Xbox One and was previously part of the Games With Gold program, so apply there only ... It's Tuesday which means it's time for another reset of the Deals with Gold and Spotlight sale. This week appears as though it's another seemingly underwhelming one. Titles such as Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline and Mirror's Edge Catalyst lead the line in terms of AAA titles, that's despite all of them already being available in EA's great value for money EA Access Vault. Outside of those, titles such as the critically panned Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 and licensed title Duck Dynasty are also on offer at huge discounts (with good reason). It's not all bad though, there are some ... Read More »
What do you get if you throw some classic titles into a blender, pour it out and put some dressing on it? Taking obvious inspiration from titles such as Another World, Abe's Odyssey and Inside, Sand Sailor Studios has your mind ticking amongst this noir platform-puzzler, Black the Fall, but is the story as gripping as said classics and how do the puzzles fare? Black the Fall sees you playing as a machinist trying to escape the clutches of a communist regime; one could say a Mudokon escaping Rupture Farms if we were to compare to Abe's Odyssey - given ... Many have thought that the backwards compatibility program has been slowing down somewhat over the past couple of weeks, myself included. There are only a finite number of games to utilise, after all. But then something like this happens and my faith has been restored all over again. Major Nelson has just tweeted the following: Super Streetfighter IV Arcade Edition is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today https://t.co/qPMRNrLoTQpic.twitter.com/WfShOJpLGm — 💬 Larry Hryb (@majornelson) July 13, 2017 You may remember a couple of months back that the vanilla version of Street Fighter IV joined the library, which seemed pointless given ...
