Do people still play…

Look, we get it. You’re one of the cool kids. You’ll drop something before it becomes uncool just in case anyone even hints that you, too, might be uncool. You got back into high-tops before anyone else, you decided it’s okay to not like fro-yo, and you were the first kid on the street to microwave your Furby. You’re a trendsetter. But, you know what’s not cool? What just makes you look like the petty, entitled, smug fool that you are? “Does anyone still play that…” whenever anyone mentions the game that you no longer play because you don’t want … Read More »

This week Xbox celebrates its 15th birthday

Fifteen years. What a wild ride. Fifteen years of Xbox green, the Master Chief and our favourite console family. On 15 November, 2001. Xbox was introduced to the world. Not everyone’s Xbox love goes back that far – but many of those who were there at the beginning, marvelling at interstellar wars in Halo or drifting ’round city Streets in Project Gotham Racing, are still part of our Xbox family. We can’t wait to see what’s in store in the future – and we’re excited to relive those last fifteen years in some great company this Tuesday, 15 November, Xbox’s birthday. (Yes, … Read More »

34th Annual Golden Joystick Awards

34 years. That’s how long the Golden Joysticks have been going. Older than many of you reading this, you whippersnappers, you. 2016’s been a great year for games, and we can expect to see that reflected in those taking the stage at the O2 in London in the evening of 18 November. With a huge range of categories – it’s not just Best Game anymore – we can’t wait to see who picks up awards such as Best Indie Game, Best Story, and Most likely to consume their own bodyweight in Krispy Kremes during the show (me). Rest assured, we’ll … Read More »

Ride 2 Review

Precision. Accuracy. Millimetre-perfect. There’s no room for error in Ride 2, and that will come as a shock if you’ve never picked up a bike racing sim before. With four wheels, you can graze the Armco, squeeze down the inside, dish out the odd tap here or there, and still not lose more than half a tenth in a lap. Try it on one of the lovingly recreated machines in Ride 2, and you’re history. Or smeared across the geography. Motorcycle racing is hard. You might have more racing lines through some corners, but you better pick one, and you … Read More »

Mantis Burn Racing Review

The grind is real. But honestly, what did we expect from an RPG? No, you’ve not wandered into the wrong review by mistake. We’ve ploughed more hours than we care to think about into Mantis Burn Racing, and if ever there was a simple-looking game that hides its considerable depths, Mantis Burn Racing is it. This is a (more or less) top down racer in the grand tradition, tracing its heritage back to Up ‘N Down, Skidmarks, Super Sprint and other classics of that ilk. So, you know what to expect: light goes green, floor it, power slide maniacally around bends and … Read More »

Video game inspiration

It’s a mad, bad, dangerous world, and video games offer an escape from reality. That’s the commonly held theory, at any rate; a theory held, in particular, by people who don’t play video games. But games offer so much more than that. They offer a window into our world, and help us make sense of it. They can help us relate to people, to places and to circumstances that we don’t quite fully understand – and that has the potential to bring us closer together. And games help us make sense of ourselves. And often, we don’t see any of that – we’re … Read More »

Christmas Chief comes but once a year…

Yes, it’s only October but the Christmas Hype starts earlier every year here in the Xbox One UK Castle. And we’re especially excited to see Numskull’s exciting range of traditional Christmas apparel. Nestled cosily amongst the festive AT-ATs, Spidermen and Chun-Lis you’ll find Spartan John-117, Halo‘s Master Chief himself, riffing on his most iconic line. Being able to spend Christmas Day with everyone’s favourite seven foot tall armoured killing machine is, obviously, what Christmas is all about. We’ll let you click through to www.numskull.co.uk to find out how much a jumper you’ll wear for half a day and then abandon when … Read More »

Mantis Burn Racing PREVIEW

The grind is real. But honestly, what did we expect from an RPG? This is a (more or less) top down racer in the grand tradition, tracing its heritage back to Up ‘N Down, Skidmarks, Super Sprint and other classics of that ilk.
