Okay, maybe it doesn't hint at Zombie crows. But this latest State of Decay 2 image perfectly encapsulates middle America gone to ruin. I'm not saying zombie crows are a brilliant future, but I'm sure there's a fairly sizable population who would be thankful if that's the worst thing that happens to America over the next four years. State of Decay was, to be fair, a little raggedy around the edges, a little clunky. It was also brilliantly designed, twisting a rogue-lite survival adventure into a third person zombie-filled RPG that swallowed up whole weekends, and it became one of our ... Read More »
If you've been here any length of time you might pick up on the fact that there's an argument to be made that INSIDE is the greatest video game ever created , anywhere, in all galaxies and universes. Playdead's masterpiece, building on the success of LIMBO and then overshadowing it in every way possible, is one of the most compelling, artistic, mesmerising experiences around. It was our indie game of 2016 and is still the only game ever to score 10 out of 10 in an Xbox One UK review. So, we were understandably all of a Squee! when Playdead ... Read More »
As teases go, it's only a little one. A flirtations tickle, little more. But, as this is Battlefield 1, one of our favourite shooters of the moment, our interest is well and truly piqued by the brand-new fifteen-second trailer that joins a couple of pieces of concept art released last December. So, what exactly is being teased here? That would be the first major expansion to hit Battlefield 1 since launch. Entitled They Shall Not Pass, the expansion will feature all-new maps, new weapons, and the new playable French Army faction.  They Shall Not Pass will truly expand the theater of all-out war. https://twitter.com/Battlefield/status/822496454677823490 With ... Halo Wars 2 - the next entry in the sprawling Halo Universe saga - lands on 21st February, but from today eager Spartans will get the chance to test themselves in battle in the open Blitz Beta. Running from 20 - 30 January, the Blitz Beta showcases an entirely new way to play Halo Wars. Part Real Time Strategy title, part card strategy game, Blitz promises fast paced action where your deck of cards represents the troops and units at your disposal. Timing is key - the right card is no good if played at the wrong time, against the wrong ... Read More »
That Watch Dogs 2 got made at all still raises an eyebrow. That it's such a great game - overcoming all its predecessor's many flaws - is even more surprising. But we can't help wonder if the incredible hype and subsequent disappointment of the first game has hurt sales of the sequel. After all, once bitten, twice shy. What better way, then, to tempt doubters back to the franchise than by offering a free trial? Ubisoft agrees, it seems. According to the official Ubisoft blog, a free three-hour trial of the full game will be available for download starting 24th January 2017. ... Read More »
Changes to Cortana aren't the only changes on the way for Xbox One owners. Microsoft is just about to launch the Creators Update - a significant upgrade for Windows 10 devices, including Xbox One. That's probably worth a reminder: inside every Xbox One there beats a Windows 10 heart - it's the reason why we have such a diverse range of apps and why we believe the Xbox One ecosystem has such a bright future. And things will only get brighter with the Creators Update or, more accurately, a series of updates that will occur throughout 2017, the first of which ... Read More »
The Behemoth - creator of Alien Hominid HD, Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theatre - is one of the most-respected indie developers around, with a unique style and a singular perspective. In Pit People, out on Xbox Game Preview this week, they've turned their talents towards turn-based strategy, with predictably anarchic results. Pip People offers single player, two-player and four-player (two vs two) strategic action, testing your turn-based skills throughout a loot-filled adventure of exploration and battle. "Master the destiny of a full cast of tragically unique heroes as you plot a course across an apocalyptic wonderland! "Dogged at every step by a ... Read More »
That's it, folks - Christmas is well and truly over. How can we tell? Is it the lack of mince pies, decorations and fat old men trying to break into our homes? Well, yes, actually. That, and the return of This Week at Bungie - the weekly roundup of all things Destiny. We may have packed our Sparrows away until the next season of SRL, but the Live Team is promising another update is on its way, and although there's no further information our minds are filled with visions of last Valentine's Crimson Days (has it been nearly a year? I'm ... Read More »
Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Siege, the claustrophobic team shooter from Ubisoft, gets a new update today. Update 5.3 consists mainly of bug fixes. In fact, there's only one new feature - in custom lobbies, the host can pause the operator selection timer, useful when all you're doing is arguing who accidentally grenaded whom in the previous round. Wait, that's not how everyone plays? Pausing the timer is accomplished by pressing Up on the D-pad; a second press restarts it. The full patch notes are available on the R6 Forum, and bug fixes include players no longer keeping their shields equipped when ... Read More »
