Console owners, free play is coming.

So far, free-to-play games that make money from in-game purchases largely have been confined to mobile platforms and PCs. Game consoles have largely been driven by the “pay-to-own” model, whether that’s a £40 disc in a box or a £2 download. That won’t last. Last month, Wargaming announced that its hugely popular free-to-play massive multiplayer online tank battle game World of Tanks would be coming to the Xbox One (Check it out here). Sony has a burgeoning free-to-play market, with 16 titles already launched across all PlayStation platforms and more in the pipeline. The popular open-world zombie survival game H1Z1 is coming to PS4 later … Read More »

Rumoured new rival to Skylanders, ‘LEGO Dimensions’

Warner Bros are rumoured on planning a toy-to-life game under the working title of LEGO Dimensions. The title is in the works Traveller’s Tales, the studio behind many of the previous LEGO games. LEGO Dimensions has been touted as a competitor to the Skylanders franchise, Disney Infinity and Nintendo’s Amiibo toy line. Warner has yet to comment on the speculation, although a Traveller’s Tales spokesperson previously said that the studio was “always trying to push the boundaries” when asked about the possibility of a toys-to-life release. The company is currently known to be working on LEGO Jurassic World and LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, both of which will be released this year. … Read More »

Ride’s resolution bumped from 900p to 1080p

During the early days of the Xbox One launch, most multiplatform games were struggling to run at full HD resolution on the Xbox One but in the last six months or so, several AAA games like Destiny and Grand Theft Auto 5 have been able to run at that standard. Microsoft have consistently released SDK updates for the Xbox One, freeing up GPU and CPU resources for the developers. One such title that is taking advantage of the latest updates from Microsoft is Milestone’s RIDE. The game is already confirmed to be running at 1080p on the PS4 but the … Read More »

2 game modes added to Mortal Kombat X

This week, Kombat Kast have revealed two additional game modes for Mortal Kombat 10, Kustom Kombat and Test Your Luck. Test Your Luck is a holdover from Mortal Kombat 9, and involves so-called “modifiers” that switch up gameplay by adding special effects. Players can have as many modifiers as they want in the match, but the modifiers themselves are randomly selected from a pool of over a hundred, and don’t necessarily affect players equally. Some of the modifiers – Double Damage, for example – help players out; others, like Curse of Sloth, aren’t quite as beneficial. Kustom Kombat builds off of Test Your Luck by … Read More »

Grave is an open world, procedural survival horror game being developed by Broken Window Studios, LLC. Grave will be launching in this year on the Xbox One. It will feature a fusion between modern horror and classic survival horror gameplay elements. Grave’s brand of surrealist dreamscape will be a unique experience for players. The team’s goal is to create the “Destino” or “Eraserhead” of games, by experimenting and redefining the player’s interaction with the game’s narrative.   Explore a dynamically procedural desert inspired by the early Wild West landscape of America as you explore the game’s unusual narrative. Fusing reality … Read More »

Gears of War Titles Coming, But No Xbox One Anthology

Black Tusk’s studio manager has stepped forward to say that the rumoured Gears of War: Marcus Fenix Collection or any other kind of COG-filled Xbox One anthology isn’t happening, but he did hint towards something a lot more interesting. Black Tusk’s studio manager, Rod Ferguson, has revealed on Twitter that there isn’t any kind of Gears of War HD remaster collection or a definitive edition set coming to the Xbox One. Fortunately, his comments did allude to an extraordinary revelation: Black Tusk Studios is working on multiple Gears of War projects. Meaning the fabled Gears of War 4, or whatever the current-gen GOW game will be titled, … Read More »
