Dead Cells Is Now Available On The Xbox One
Dead Cells is a 2D action platformer very much in the model of Castlevania with an incredibly retro art style. You play as a collection of cells that inhabit the body of a dead prisoner.
You must fight your way through a series of dungeons defeating enemies and collecting loot as you go. Some of the enemies that you kill will drop cells that can be spent on permanent power-ups such as extra health or new items. The dungeons are procedurally generated meaning that every run in the game will be a little different.
At certain intervals during the game you will come across a boss known as a Keeper. At the time of writing there are four keepers in the game, the Incomplete One, The Watcher, The Assassin, and The Hand of the King.
The official blurb from the developer contains the following features of the game:
- RogueVania: Intense 2D action with the adrenaline pumping threat of permadeath in a castle full of cuddly creatures.
- Souls-lite combat: Pattern-based bosses and minions, weapons and spells with unique gameplay. Roll roll roll your boat gently down the stream…
- Nonlinear progression: Unlock new levels with every death, take a new path. Tired of the stinking sewers? Why not take the ramparts?
- Exploration: Secret rooms, hidden passages, charming landscapes. A fine place for a holiday.
You can download Dead Cells from the Xbox Store for £19.99.
