Looking at the Linksys WRT32XB you’d be forgiven for thinking that is pretty much identical to the WRT32X, (available for £249.99 at Amazon) and it is, except for one thing – that little B on the end signifies that this is the router that’s been developed specifically to enhance the online gaming experience for Xbox One owners. Sadly, for the moment, it’s not available to buy in the UK. So what are we missing out on?
The Linksys WRT32XB autodetects and gives priority to network traffic to and from the Xbox One Console. Any other traffic that the router is having to handle will only be dealt with once the Xbox One traffic has been managed. Linksys sat that this development sees up to a 65% reduction in peak ping.
The technology isn’t new; the WRT32X already includes Riven Networks “Killer Prioritisation Technology” designed for PC gamers however this is the first time they’ve built a product focused on us Xbox One owners.
Here’s what you get for the money:
- 802.11 Wi-fi
- Four Gigabit Ethernet Ports
- e-SATA port that accepts USB 2.0
- USB 3.0 port
- Four adjustable and detachable antennas
While the router may well help with your connection speed, unfortunately, it’s not magic and there will be plenty of other causes of latency that you’ll still need to tweak for the best online gaming experience possible.
The Linksys WET32XB will be available to buy in the US from February for $299. We’ve contacted Linksys for an update on if and when the router will become available in the UK, (fingers crossed) and we’ll post an update once we know.
