Minecraft Story Mode: Season 2 Episode 1 Review
Telltale’s adventure into the Minecraft universe continues with Minecraft Story Mode: Season 2 Episode 2. Jesse has escaped the clutches of the Admin; a gigantic entity in the form of one of the statues from the underwater temple. With the help of Jack and Nerm, the gang learned some of the power of the gauntlet that is attached to Jesse’s arm as well as found the structure block to seal the Heckmouth and the Creeper infestation. With the Founder’s Day celebration and the successful return of Jesse and Petra going on in Beacontown, Episode 1 ends with all coming to a halt when the Admin from the temple comes to confront Jesse in Beacontown.
Episode 2 picks up right at this moment and really begins to drive the story home. Again while avoiding spoilers, Episode 2 really dives into who the Admin is and why the prismatic gauntlet was destined for Jesse. The identity of the Admin as well Jesse was chosen for the gauntlet are the key plot lines but beyond that, this episode really puts the player into more unique situations than the first episode did. This didn’t really surprise us as Episode 1 was more of a setup into the bigger story. The surprise though is that Episode 2 really engages you, while the choices you make feel like they are a lot more weight on situations instead of just conversation filler.
Telltale does a really great job for those who skipped Episode 1 as well. It’s really easy to pick up the overall plot without playing through the first episode but overall character development with the newer character really flourishes in Episode 2 with the help of the first. As there is still the typical button mashing and reaction sections, there isn’t anything overly difficult that anyone couldn’t complete. As good as Episode 1 is, Episode 2 really embraces true storytelling, significant conversation options, as well as draw emotional player responses that Telltale does best.
Minecraft Story Mode: Season 2 Episode 2 is now available through the Xbox Store priced at £5.19.
