New Gamemode Coming To Overwatch
Yesterday Jeff Kaplan took to YouTube to announce that the team at Blizzard will be bringing a brand new gamemode to Overwatch, and this time they are going back to basics. All of the gamemodes in Overwatch in the past have been objective based but this time there is going to be no objective except to kill, kill, kill. This new gamemode will be the classic staple of FPS’s from the dawn of time, Deathmatch.

The Deathmatch gamemode will be in the arcade section of the game meaning that while playing you can unlock more fantastic loot boxes. The Deathmatch mode will be split into two different kinds of games. The first will be a free for all mode where you play against seven different players, all going after each other, where you will try to assert your superiority. The second is a team based game where you will play in two six man teams and try to kill more than you are killed.
At this point some of you might be a little worried about getting those loot boxes by winning arcade games if you are playing the free for all mode. But you have no need to worry, to get that green check mark on your arcade scorecard you don’t need to win overall but finish in the top 4, which doesn’t sound too bad at all.
To complement this new game mode Blizzard have modified several of the maps that we know and love to fit this game mode. We can assume that this means we will get maps that look a little like the modified maps used in the capture the flag mode. There will also be an entirely new map added to the roster that is specifically designed for this new gamemode. It is unclear at the moment whether this new map will be added to the main map rotation. From what’s happened in the past tough it could be fair to say that we will see it added to the rotation at some point, in some form at least.
