DOOM’s 6.66 Update Makes DLC Free and Drops Overall Price
One of the gaming highlights of 2016 was the return of one of the FPS genre’s founding fathers: DOOM. The reboot took what people loved about the original games and modernised it for current gamers. It. Kicked. Ass.
Over a year on, Bethesda aren’t finished with DOOM just yet, and have released Update 6.66. You know, because the game is about Hell? Funny. The update itself is bringing a number of improvements to multiplayer and the SnapMap feature, but that’s not all.
Firstly, the season pass has now been retired, with all DLC packs now available for all players, for free. That’s nine new maps, three new weapons, three new playable demons and more, all for nothing. They’ve also revamped the multiplayer progression system, which will now allow players to focus on unlocks they want instead of the previous random selection.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the overall game is getting a permanent price drop. You can now get the full game and all this free content for the low, low price of $14.99 (US) / £11.99 (UK) / $17.99 (AUS) when purchasing digitally. If all of this isn’t enough to convince you already, a free weekend has just started which will let you trial the first two levels of the campaign whilst allowing full access to SnapMap and Multiplayer.
Are you going to be playing DOOM for the first time? Will you head back in order to destroy the new players online? Rip and tear in the comments below.
