Xbox Game Pass – July’s Additions

Earlier this month, Xbox released a new subscription service in the vein of Netflix called Xbox Game Pass. This allows you to pay a subscription every month to gain access to a catalogue of over 100 Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles. Rather than streaming, you get to download the game in it’s entirety, allowing you to play when you want – for as long as that title remains in the catalogue and providing of course, you still have an active subscription.

A new month is almost upon us, and as promised, there will be several new games added to the collection on 1st July without any titles being removed. Let’s take a look at this months additions.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition

Guacamelee

First arrived on Xbox One as a Games with Gold title, Guacamelee! is a Metroid-vania title inspired by traditional Mexican folklore and culture. A title that can be played alone or co-operatively, that can become quite the challenge in later stages of the game. Plenty of moves that double up as abilities as you progress through the game, with a combo system makes this a title one to play – especially if you didn’t catch it when it was a freebie.

The Flame in the Flood

The Flam in the Flood

The Flame in the Flood is a wilderness survival game in which a girl and her dog travel on foot and by raft down a procedurally-generated river. Scrounge for resources, craft tools, remedy afflictions, evade the vicious wildlife and, most importantly, stay healthy in a dangerous wilderness. One that I’ve personally not played as survival games generally aren’t my cup of tea – but each to their own.

Resident Evil 6

 Resident Evil 6

With a Resident Evil title already available as a Game Pass title – that being Resident Evil 0, Game Pass makes a huge jump to the sixth title in the series. Straying well away from it’s original survival horror roots, Resident Evil 6 is more of an action experience focusing on hordes of zombies and psychopaths but featuring familiar faces along with new ones, it’s still worthy of a play-through in its own right.

Dead Island Definitive Edition

 Dead Island

If Resident Evil 6 doesn’t fill your zombie fix, maybe Dead Island will. Touted as the best in the series thus far, Dead Island is a first person open-world survival game where you band together with a bunch of other holiday-makers to find a way off a zombie-infested island. Allowing up to four players to team up together, this is certainly a title that’s much better when playing with a friend. First arrived on Xbox 360, this definitive edition is the Xbox One version complete with all DLC that was available with the Xbox 360 version.

F1 2015

F1 2015

Race like a champion in F1 2015 – get closer than ever before to the experience of racing in the world’s most glamorous, exciting and prestigious motorsport. With plenty of modes to get those tires burning, this title will provide you with hours of formula one racing entertainment. If that’s your bag, that is.

Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine

Monaco

Another co-op game that’s quite fun, if only for a short period of time before it gets stale is Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine. With a top-down view, you can work alone or with friends to take on the biggest of heists be it by stealth or all guns blazing and try to come out on top with the most stolen goods.

Bard’s Gold

Bard's Gold

The final addition to the Game Pass for July is Bard’s Gold. A retro-inspired rogue-lite platformer that can become difficult and frustrating at times. One touch from your foe and it’s instant death for you so patience is key to playing this title. Once you’ve died, any gems collected will carry on over with you to the next run-through of the game, allowing you to upgrade your abilities and weapons in order to progress that little bit further next time. But with randomly-generated levels, this may prove difficult to predict what will come next.

So there we have it: A total of seven games added to the catalogue, with no other titles removed, making it a total of 119 titles available. And for the next few months, we will see even more titles being added and according to Microsoft themselves, we won’t see any removals for a good few months yet.

If you haven’t already claimed your free 14-day trial to the subscription, you can sign up here and get playing straight away. And for just £7.99 a month for this whopping collection of games, remembering that you’re not streaming these titles, you’ll be downloading them, it’s safe to say you get more bang for your buck.

Here is the list of all games in the subscription, baring in mind that the titles listed above will be available from 1st July. Also note that for as long as these titles remain part of the service, all games and DLC available for the titles will be available to purchase with a small discount.
