The Division’s Year 2 Content Will Be Free

Here’s some news that might either call you back to the post-outbreak New York of The Division, or even tempt in some new players: all additional expansion content for Year 2 will be free!

Announced yesterday as part of Massive Entertainment’s live-stream, creative director Julian Gerighty said that there will be no season pass for the upcoming year, and even dropped a few hints for what players can expect.

Whilst details are yet to be finalised, the first expansion will include limited-time events, called Seasons (Ubisoft love seasons), which will flip regular gameplay on its head. We can also expect the ability to create and swap loadouts, which has been a top requested feature, and the inclusion of in-game achievements called Feats.

As for the second expansion, Gerighty noted that it will contain much more of a narrative weight, but wanted to downplay any speculation of some huge story DLC: “We’re going to work on seeing, OK, how can we inject more story into Year Two? One thing’s for sure, though, is that a large, paid DLC expansion of the playable area into Queens, a level cap increase — that’s off the table.” You might be getting content for free, but don’t expect the world to be handed to you.

Still, the content proposed appears to be significant enough to keep The Division relevant throughout 2017. What do you think of this news? Sound off in the comments below!
