As teases go, it’s only a little one. A flirtations tickle, little more. But, as this is Battlefield 1, one of our favourite shooters of the moment, our interest is well and truly piqued by the brand-new fifteen-second trailer that joins a couple of pieces of concept art released last December.
So, what exactly is being teased here? That would be the first major expansion to hit Battlefield 1 since launch. Entitled They Shall Not Pass, the expansion will feature all-new maps, new weapons, and the new playable French Army faction. They Shall Not Pass will truly expand the theater of all-out war.

With at least one of the new maps set in North Eastern France, near the city of Verdun, it’s clear that Battlefield 1 isn’t shying away from depicting some of the most bloody conflicts in human history.
“Around 1 million shells were fired in the opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun. This created massive forest fires around the fortified city and the battlefields surrounding it. Soldiers tell stories of being able to see these fires from far away. We really wanted to capture this initial fighting in a battle that came to be known as the Devil’s Anvil.
“The initial fighting around Verdun quickly transformed villages like Samogneux and entire forests into shadows of their former self. Verdun turned into the longest battle of the war lasting 9 months which completely transformed it. We wanted our players to be part of these initial intense attacks in the cold February of 1916.”
We’ve been gripped by Battlefield 1 since launch – an unexpectedly compelling and, at times, harrowing single player campaign was a particularly welcome surprise.
More details about the expansion are promised next week.
You will be able to play They Shall Not Pass two weeks early, with the Battlefield 1 Premium Season Pass, available from the Store priced £39.99 (with a £4.00 discount for EA Access members).
