Christmas Gift Guide | If you have to ask how much, you can’t afford it

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, and many a gamer’s thoughts turn to the gadgets they’d like to find under the tree on Happy Santa Day. But if you are spoiled for choice, or looking for that something special for the gamer in your life, don’t worry. We got you, fam.

We’ve picked out some of our favourite gaming gadgets that we’ve tested this year – and some things we’d like for ourselves! – and grouped them together by price so you’re sure to find some gift inspiration here.

Once you take away the price limit, you can go from the sublime to the ridiculous. But it’s nice to dream.

Let’s start our dream with the Turtle Beach Elite Tournament Pack – £350 of audio goodness. This is Turtle Beach’s best wired headset, the Elite Pro at £170. Add the the Tournament Audio Controller at £150 to provide glorious 7.1 surround sound, and the heavy duty noise canceling Elite Pro mic at £30 and you have gaming audio par excellence. Designed with the pro tour scene in mind, this is a fantastic five star package.

Turtle Beach Elite Pro

“Turtle Beach have clearly taken on advice from the professionals – this is a competitive gaming package that gets everything right. Every component of the Turtle Beach Elite Pro Tournament Pack works together to deliver an unparalleled headset experience. Yes, it is hugely expensive and – realistically – outside the budget of most. But if you have the money, this is the best competitive gaming package on the market.”

The market for controllers pretty much tops out at around £170 – even SCUF’s most technologically advanced controller with all the bells and whistles added doesn’t come close to £200. But if you’ve got money to burn and are adamant it will be burned on a controller, you’ll need to go Special Edition. The Xbox One Wireless Elite Controller Gears of War Edition, that is.

Produced in very limited numbers it was an almost instant sell-out at £159.99. You can still pick one up, but you’ll be spending the best part of £500 for the privilege.

Elite Gears of War

It doesn’t do anything different from the regular Elite, but you’ll sleep soundly in your bed knowing you spent four times over the odds for a pretty colour and some laser-etched scratches.

Has the thought of spending half a grand on a controller made you feel a little faint? You better sit down – and where nicer to sit than the Vertagear Gaming Series Triigger Line 350SE? A gaming chair surely without compare. The Ferrari of gaming chairs (well, it has shiny red bits). Boasting chair adjustment levels on the arm rests rather than underneath the seat, Vertagear claims you can make adjustments eight times faster than with a normal chair – perfect for those crucial mid-round seating changes.

We’ve always been impressed by the engineering of Vertagear’s chairs – we can’t wait to get our bums onto one of these. At nearly £800, we might have to wait a while, though.

Of course – what good are games if you’ve nothing to watch them on? No, that 14″ portable you’ve had since 1984 just isn’t going to cut it. You need something a little bit better. Enter the LG OLED55E6V.

We’ve gone for 55″ rather than 65″ because, well, having a 4K OLED TV is ostentations enough. Especially one that supports HDR10 (and Dolby Vision) and offers a reasonably low input lag of 34.2 ms (not as fast as some, but fast enough, and as this is OLED there’s no motion blur, just buttery smooth action. Lag measurement courtesy of RTINGS TV Reviews).

Yours for just £2,499.
