So it appears Respawn Entertainment is doing everything to keep Titanfall 2 running on current generation consoles they can to keep gameplay as fast and smooth as possible. The tech test from the previous weekend allowed us to see the game running at it’s native resolution, which appears to be 720p on Xbox One. This is actually a slight downgrade from the original Titanfall as it ran at 792p. Does this mean Respawn Entertainment downgraded the quality for Titanfall 2? Not at all!
Titanfall was at the launch of the Xbox One and was limited to only a resolution without the refinements that are currently being more utilized by developers. Titanfall 2 uses a temporal aliasing solution in place that works to soften the objects but provide a clean image overall. This creates a lower resolution image with smoother lines that allows the console to do more with less. This allows the Xbox One to have little to no struggle at maintaining it’s 60 frames per second (FPS). Sony’s PS4 is running Titanfall 2 at 900p but appears to have a lot more moments struggling to maintain 60 FPS. Just because the resolution is better, doesn’t mean the quality is better.
Titanfall 2 is set release on October 28, 2016. There is also an open tech for players to enjoy this weekend from August 26th to the 28th. You can get the details for the tech test here.
