There are certain game franchises that transcend the common place arguments of which gaming platform is better.
One such franchise is Final Fantasy. The series has been enchanting fans since it’s very first appearance way back when in 1987 and now it appears that the series’ latest game, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, could be coming to Xbox One.
What has previously prevented this title coming to the Xbox One would seemingly be the lack of cross-platform functionality the console offers. However with Microsoft recently announcing cross-play between Xbox One and Windows 10, as well as an apparent willingness to extend their cross-play to the rival PS4 this could soon be a moot point.
If issues with cross play are to soon be a thing of the past it would certainly seem to leave the door open for a multi-platform title such as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to enjoy a successful run on Xbox One.
The likelihood of A Realm Reborn coming to Xbox One was given further credence with recent comments from the games Director, Naoki Yoshida, regarding Microsoft’s cross-play and online regulations:
When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet. The Final Fantasy 14 team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We’re waiting on Microsoft’s response for that, but we are having discussions.
This is all very exciting news for MMORPG, Xbox One and Final Fantasy fans alike! Would you like to see A Realm Reborn come to Xbox One? Is it a game you have previous experience with that you’d like to try again on a different platform? Or would you be entirely new to this title, or maybe even Final Fantasy in general?
