Xbox’s New Play Anywhere: Is It A Win, Win?

Play Anywhere has come out of nowhere and has had a fantastic reception. Gears Of War will be one of the first to use this feature. If you have been hiding under a rock throughout E3 then I’ll explain; Play Anywhere enables you to play the games you have purchased like Gears and play across any enabled device, like a Windows 10 PC, without having to purchase the title again. It will save all your achievements and, with the cloud, you’ll also retain your last checkpoint. This enables cross-platform play with seamless ease.

In a recent interview with Jeff Rivait, Xbox Platform Marketing Manager for Xbox Canada, Jeff said he believes that Play Anywhere raises the value of the Xbox brand. Rivait said that he believes that Xbox is no longer an exclusively console ecosystem, and that he believes the brand’s value will only increase when gamers can play their games across Xbox and Window 10.

“It increases the value in gamer’s lives, and that’s the goal for Xbox’ vision,” said Rivait. “It’s no longer just a console ecosystem. We want to make sure that Xbox can bring the best games to people no matter the device they play on. Windows 10, being the best Windows built for gaming, gives players who may have been primarily console gamer’s at first – it might knock down some barriers for them to try out PC gaming, and vice versa.”
