Destiny: New “Rise of Iron” Expanison

If the internet rumour mill is to be believed it could well be a certainty that Destiny’s next expansion will be called Rise of Iron.

A recently leaked poster shows the well known Lord Saladin (master of the Iron Banner) stood in front of a fractured piece of the wall, brandishing a flaming axe and flanked by majestic wolves (a reference to the Iron Wolves).

Rise of Iron

So what do we know about these Iron Lords and Iron Wolves? Well the Lords, of whom Saladin isn’t a member but rather serves as a burning reminder of their sacrifice by using their Sigil for Iron Banner, were a group of Guardians responsible for the construction of and defence of the Last City’s wall.

The Iron Wolves came later, they were also formed to protect the last civilizations of humans on earth, although much less is known about the Iron Wolves it’s a safe assumption that the new DLC, if real, will expand on their lore in some way, shape or form.

What else could the DLC bring us? With members of the Iron Lords already having weapons named after them; such as Radegast’s Fury, Efrideet’s Spear, Jolder’s Hammer and Felwinter’s lie it’s safe to say this new expansion will include new weapons. Could this possibly be new exotic’s with a heavy bias towards PvP play (Iron Banner)? That remains to be seen.

Alongside new weapons it’s a safe bet that the new DLC will include, missions, armour as well as new lore to be explored. However there is the potentially HUGE rumour that this DLC could feature a brand new raid, something fans of the game have been crying out for.

What else could be seen in this DLC remains a mystery. However, there are sure to be several outlandish theory’s that appear on line. My personal theory? This DLC could see the reintroduction of Mara Sov. Where’s the logic in it? The Iron Lords and the Iron Wolves were both groups of Nine. Xur serves the Nine so we know there is a current incarnation of the mysterious group, and who should just so happen to have close ties with this current version of the Nine? None other than The Queen of the Awoken, Mara Sov.

At the end of the day Bungie will hope this DLC does one thing. Re-establish their faltering fan base. Could it do that? Surely it could, especially if rumours of a new raid are true. I know on a personal level it would inspire me to boot the game back up for one last run before Destiny 2 in 2017.

Recapturing the imaginations of lost fans is key to Destiny’s success, even hardcore fans have lost interest of late. I was running a 320 Titan, 319 Warlock and 319 Hunter before the most recent update. However I had literally no interest in coming back for Challenge of Elders and a meagre 15 light level increase. BUT Rise of Iron certainly has piqued my interest and could see me take up arms to fight back the Darkness once more if it there’s any truth to it.

Have you been a hardcore fan of Destiny since it’s inception? Were you once a daily player that became disenchanted with the game? Are you a relative Kinderguardian, only experiencing it for the first time lately? Or are you one of those who’s avoided the title like the plague?

Which ever of these you are let us know your thoughts on this latest rumour. Could it be the saviour of the franchise? Is it to little to late? Have they gone about keeping fans happy all wrong? Let us know in the comments.
