Xbox One: Home Of The Freebie

Today we’re going to look at some of the free hidden gems (or best left hidden secrets) currently available on the Xbox One that may have gone unnoticed by many due to a lack of advertising on the part of Xbox.

I think it’s safe to say that aside from the odd meltdown here and there that the Xbox Live service is pretty rock solid. It’s generally available when it should be and it’s rare that it’ll go offline in an unscheduled capacity.

Obviously being a member of Xbox Live Gold brings a whole host of benefits, from online gaming, massive discounts on games in the Xbox Store and of course the ever popular Games With Gold which currently sees those with Xbox Live Gold subscriptions receiving not one, not two, not three but FOUR games for free every month (two Xbox One titles and two Xbox 360 titles).

It’s the free games available through Xbox Live that we’re going to focus on here. Obviously some month the Games with Gold are of an outstanding quality and other months they feel like a let down, but they’re still free so let’s not complain too much.

However, what about those free games that aren’t part of the Games with Gold programme? What about those titles, the ones that sit patiently in the background, waiting to be noticed and downloaded?

There are a whole host of them! A lot more than many people, myself included, knew about! So let’s take a look at the list of games currently available for free via Xbox Live:

  • AirMech Arena
  • Battle Ages (Currently available for pre-download, release 20th-April)
  • Battle Islands
  • DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round: Core Fighters
  • Doritos Crash Course (Xbox Live Arcade Title)
  • Frozen Free Fall: Snowball Fight
  • Game Of Thrones – Episode 1: Iron From Ice
  • Gems of War
  • Happy Wars
  • Hexic HD (Xbox Live Arcade Game)
  • Killer Instinct
  • Magic Duels
  • Neverwiner
  • Pinball Arcade
  • Pinball Fx2
  • Powerstar Golf
  • Project Spark
  • Resident Evil Revelations 2 (Episode One)
  • Saints Row IV (Xbox 360 Edition – Games with Gold title)
  • Smite
  • Sunset Overdrive (Games with Gold title)
  • Tales From The Borderland – Episode 1: Zer0 Sum
  • The Wolf Among Us (Games With Gold title)
  • Warframe
  • World of Tanks
  • Xbox Fitness

Killer InstinctKiller Instinct – One of Xbox One’s more iconic free titles.

Now I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say that is a HUGE amount of free games. Granted they may not all be AAA games and some of them do require paid expansions to truly get the full experience but this list isn’t to be sniffed at.

There’s a whole list of games there that are sure to be able to help you waste away a few hours when you’re bored of all your current games but the piggy bank is looking distinctly barren. Grab any games that pique your interest as there’s no telling when these games could become paid titles.

Will you be toddling off to the Xbox Store to download any of these freebies? If you do feel free to tell us in the comments below! Let us know whether any of them become a surprise favourite or if you unexpectedly master any of them!
