Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 Now in Development
In news that will surprise precisely one person (my nan), there’s a rumour that Rockstar are already in the process of planning the next Grand Theft Auto, GTA 6 – or GTA VI, for the Roman numerically-minded.
It comes hot on the heels of the Red Dead 2 rumours, which imply that the follow-up to the studio’s 2010 hit western will be putting in an appearance at this year’s E3.
Rockstar are notoriously secretive about their projects, so you can take pretty much every rumour with a pinch of salt – and a side-order of 9mm to the face – but given that it’s been 2-and-a-half years since GTAV’s initial release, it makes sense that the developers would be working on the next iteration. Not that they need to, given the amount of dollar they’re earning from GTA Online.
The source of the story also stated that there was, at one point, serious talk of setting the game in Tokyo, until the convoluted road system nixed the idea. Although, in fairness, who pays any attention to roads in GTA anyway?
There have been an absolute ton of rumours surrounding the location for GTA 6. Some have suggested that the whole of the USA will be available, while others reckon they could cross the pond into London for the first time since 1999’s GTA: London 1969.
And while we’re keen to see GTA: Welwyn Garden City and GTA: Basildon, the series has found its spiritual home – not mention its biggest market – in America, so it would seem likely that the next setting won’t step out of the States.
What are you most looking forward to from GTA 6? Which city would you most like to see? And just why does every driver in Los Santo want to crash into us anyway?
