Battleborn Unleashes Open Beta and Online-Only Story Mode

Those of you gagging to blast enemy players to pieces in a technicolour alien landscape will be pleased to hear that dates for Battleborn’s open beta on Xbox One and Playstation 4 have been confirmed. • PC – 10 am PST (5pm UTC)
  • Xbox One – 5pm PST (12am UTC)

APPROXIMATE DOWNLOAD SIZE:

  • PC: 12GB
  • Xbox One: 11GB

Details about the game’s story mode were also unveiled, as news broke that regardless of how you play, Battleborn is online-only.

On this world, killing someone doesn't mean you can't be polite.

Killing someone on this world can be a gentlemanly affair.

The shooter’s story campaign will play out like a TV show. Over the course of 8 ‘episodes’, you’ll follow an overarching plot, while each self-contained ep will focus on the heroes’ struggle to save Solus, the last star.

Players will be able to play through on solo, co-op or with four other players online. Ah yes, online. That reminds us…

Discussing the issue of internet-only connection with Videogamer, 2K Games reasoned justified stated that:

Battleborn requires an internet connection to play, whether you’re playing single-player, co-operatively with friends, or competitively against others. One of the reasons for this is that experience points earned in Battleborn’s Story Mode carry over to Multiplayer and vice-versa. All XP earned through the game’s persistent progression system contributes to leveling up individual Character Rank, as well as player profile Command Rank. In addition, maintaining data integrity is a major priority for the team, and online gameplay permits player’s data to be accessible, even after experiencing a hardware malfunction or purchasing a new console.

No matter where you are in the world, provided you have an internet connection, once it’s live, you’ll be able to join in the ridiculousness by downloading Battleborn’s open beta straight from the Xbox Store.

Battleborn is released 3rd May.
