Blast ‘Em Bunnies Review

Blast ‘Em Bunnies, it’s as crazy as it sounds!

You start this carrot tower defence, first person shooter with a single cannon and bunch of raw carrots with the expectation of a cute cartoon shooter that looks to be as goofy as it sounds. What you get is actually something much, much more. Blast ‘Em Bunnies puts you in control of a carrot cannon; your mission? “Protect your land” from the invading evil bunnies. Sounds simple, right?

“Protect your land” from the invading evil bunnies

As a good little bunny you are charged with manning your cannon to fend off wave after wave of evil bunnies intent on capturing your carrots, and this cute cartoon shooter sucks you in immediately. At the start you control one cannon and things seem to be going very well – maybe a little too well… Round 2, round 3, round 4, round 5 and you start to realise it’s slowing – but surely lulling you into a false sense of security! By round 8 you’re hooked and suddenly, BAM you’re dead. The cute fluffy little rabbits have you surrounded and you’re done! What’s next? replay and see if you can get more coins and reach maybe round 9.

Check out the video:

This game is not a hare and tortoise race – this is a frantic fight to the death with some bad ass bunnies that don’t hold back or pull punches. These guys will take you down like a carrot cake at Costa on the lunchtime special menu (best day ever). The aim of this game is to keep fighting, build up your stash of coins and upgrade your carrot cannon and abilities. Upgrades, though, are not cheap and take some time to acquire – but once you do these crazy critters start dropping just that little bit easier. After a solid 6 hours game play trying to unlock these upgrades, realisation sets in that Blast ‘Em Bunnies has you addicted; not the addicted for which you will need to go to rehab (I said no, no, no) but the addicted that forces you to replay – even when you know these evil critters will probably take you down in the same round!

Now you understands a little of the sheer craziness of Blast ‘Em Bunnies, let’s take a minute to talk about your enemies. You’re facing a whole host of bunny bad guys at which to take aim. We have the runners (pictured above) – these little guys are quick and will run rings around your cannon to storm in with a swift flurry of punches. We also have the flying bunnies – these guys will burst out of the ground and fly straight at you. Again these guys dont beat around the bush!

You’ll also face big bruisers bunnies – these large but slow rabbits are as hard as nails and will take a bunch of carrots at a time. Next up are the throat slitters (probably the most disturbing and brilliant out of them all) – these evil guys will hold a poor baby rabbit at knife point until you blast him, and if you’re not quick enough… well, surely you can figure out what happens next.

You’ll also encounter the Golden Bunny; this guy is quick and mostly shows up from behind. If you get him you will be invincible for a period of time. Last, but no mean least, there are the boss battles. Boss Bunnies are solid as you can see in our video – and the further through the game you progress the harder they get!

Round 2, round 3, round 4, round 5 and you start to realise it’s slowing – but surely lulling you into a false sense of security!

This fun and addictive “bunny blaster” is great entertainment and will keep you going for quite sometime. Developer Nnooo has taken the time to really polish up this bunny blaster – proving that simple, value games can really shine!

Blast ‘Em Bunnies is a solid shooter will really good foundations; it’s fun, funny and completely quirky, with some hidden humour. The game is extremely addictive and for only £3.99 on the Xbox Store there’s no reason to not go at it like a bunny (not literally). There is downloadable content available, ranging in price from £2.39 to £3.99 (and you can buy a mega bundle for £15.99) offering cosmetic changes, new arenas, upgraded blasters and coin-drop boosters. In all honesty though, despite considerable play time with the game we didn’t feel the need to make any additional purchases and unless you are already a mega bunny fan from time with the game on other platforms, would recommend you give the base game a go before plumping for any add ons.

This addictive, crazy bunny blaster is hard not to recommend, especially for the fantastic price of only £3.99. Blast ‘Em Bunnies will keep you entertained for hours. Remember: save those baby bunnies – you don’t want their deaths on your hands…right?

Give the DLC a miss though, unless you are REALLY sure it’s your kind of thing.
