EA (Electronic Arts) released their first Battlefield game in 2002 (Battlefield 1942) and like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor embraced the consumers affinity for the war-based themes of yesteryear. The franchises have becoming ever more recent in the games’ setting with “COD”‘s Modern Warfare set in the not-too-distant future. Although with varying successes, there have now been 14 separate games with the Battlefield title slapped on it and that’s not including the many DLC packs.
However, a new Battlefield game, Battlefield 5, was spotted on a German retailer with the description: “Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg” translating into “Multiplayer tactical shooter in WW1”.
We haven’t got too long to wait either with a release date showing platforms including Xbox One set for 26th October 2016. Although there were rumors of their newest upcoming title to the Battlefield series being “military oriented” having the franchise go back to its roots in terms of original World War story-telling is something that will please many of us first-person shooter lovers; the reception so far on Twitter is resoundingly positive .
I don’t know about you, but one of my all-time favorite shooters was Call of Duty 2, set in World War 2, as the stories set in a time and event that shaped the past for so many of us simply increases the ability to entirely submerse me within the game.
Expect a more formal release from EA very soon!
