Phil Spencer praises progress made on Gears of War 4

In the wee hours of yesterday morning (24th February) Rod Ferguson, Studio Head of The Coalition (the studio responsible for developing Gears of War 4), confirmed that he would be showing Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox) new “Gears 4 stuff”. What this “stuff” included altogether is anyone’s guess at the moment, but it would be a fair assumption that graphic and gameplay aspects of a Gears 4 tech demo were shown off.

Phil Spencer responded much later in the day with the Tweet below:

Now to the uninformed, which I was until I did some digging on Ferguson’s Twitter account, this may seem like something and nothing. However, this is actually MASSIVE praise from Spencer. I really can’t emphasize how massive this praise is, capitals and bold was the best I could come up with. Why is this such huge praise? Well, simply put Warfare was the code name for the first tech demos of the original Gears of War game all those many years ago.

For the Head of Xbox to be as excited about Gears of War 4 as he was seeing the tech demo of the very first Gears game you better believe it’s looking good! I’m sure the Gears of War fans among you will now join me in getting unreservedly excited about a game that we, at present, don’t know a massive (there’s that word again) amount about.

Do you think Gears of War 4 is going to live up to it’s predecessors legendary status? Will it signal the beginning of a new lease of life for the franchise?
