Destiny: Weekly Update 21/01/2016 | The Romantic One

Destiny

Bungie has just posted their first weekly update of the new year and it’s a doozy. Without these regular updates the community has been forced to fall back on rumour and speculation – emblems indicating trips to mercury, new crucible game modes, and guesses about the nature of the promised February update.

Well, speculate no more – Destiny’s overlords have spoken.

Destiny’s first Valentine’s event

Starting 9 February and running for a single week, Guardians are invited to partake in Crimson Days, a festival on a par with The Festival of the Lost (you will remember the Halloween event for its masks and candy).

“This February, in the world of the real, loving couples will descend upon crowded restaurants to exchange gifts and glance deeply into each other’s fluttering eyes. In the world of Destiny, the Guardians will be celebrating the rare variety of companionship that can only be found in the heat of battle.”

It turns out that at least one of those rumours was true – there will be a new Crucible mode, Crimson Doubles, aimed at building the kind of loving tenderness that can only be forged between two Guardians in the heat of battle.

We’ll let Bungie’s community manager DeeJ explain:

“We’re delivering a brand new 2v2 Crucible mode we’re calling Crimson Doubles. It features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate. You’ll need a dancing partner – preferably one that compliments your fighting style. The two of you will have a chance to earn some “sweet” loot together in the Crucible. To receive your gifts, you’ll have to put your differences aside and fight well as a couple.”

It looks as though one of those gifts will be a new exclusive emblem.

Bungie’s promising more information about how Crimson Doubles will operate – we can’t wait!

The Return of the Iron Banner

The Iron Banner returns next Tuesday, 26 January, for its customary week-long run. What is not customary, though, is the game type. Get ready to grab those sparks, Guardians, for the game is Rift!

As usual, you can pick up some sweet, sweet loot – this time alongside some gorgeous armour you can grab a Scout Rifle and a Fusion Rifle.

Available from Lord Saladin:

  • Rank 3: Class Item
  • Rank 4: Chest Piece, Scout Rifle
  • Rank 5: Fusion Rifle

Available as post-game drops:

  • Rank 2: Boots
  • Rank 3: Chest Piece, Scout Rifle
  • Rank 4: Fusion Rifle, Hunter Armour

Making fair matches

The weekly update digs a little deeper into how match making works – an interesting read but those mathematicians amongst you looking to crunch the numbers to gain an advantage will be disappointed, as Bungie describes this as “super-secret.”

As always, for the full details head on over to Bunge.net.

See you in the Crucible, Guardians!
