Ark: Survival Evolved is now available through the Xbox Game Preview scheme. Launching yesterday the game has been long-awaited but already people are talking about what improvements could be made. One thing that is going to get updated very soon is the ability tom play split screen co-op with a friend.
The split screen mode will only be available locally and won’t be available to play online unfortunately. No date has been confirmed for when split screen play will be available except for that it will be available early next year. Split screen will also be exclusive to the Xbox One and not available on any other platform.
Developer Studio Wildcard seem very keen on allowing players to play split screen as Ark: Survival Evolved should be a cooperative experience and enjoyed with friends. “Many developers are abandoning split-screen local play, but we couldn’t stomach that for Ark!” Studio Wildcard creative director and co-founder Jesse Rapczak said. “Friends and families can look forward to working together to survive the environment, tame its inhabitants and unravel the mysteries of the island–all from the same couch.”
Although split screen isn’t available right now there is one very special feature that is available right now. If you have a spare Xbox One, and lets face it, who doesn’t, you can use it to host your own 50+ person server. Requiring an extra Xbox One is a little demanding but the developer is quick to point out that to do this normally would require an expensive PC and more than a little technical know-how.
And finally Xbox One players are lucky enough to get some exclusive limited edition “founders content” that includes some extra skins and the like.
