Pinball FX2 Balls Of Glory Review

It’s not very often I see a pinball table that really REALLY grabs my attention but this latest DLC caught me hook, line and sinker. The genius minds at ‘Zen Studios’ have created the ‘Balls Of Glory’ pack which contains four of the most famous animation series ever:

  • Family Guy
  • American Dad
  • Bob’s Burgers
  • Archer

Let’s take a look at these tables up for offer and see what we think to them

American Dad

This is the first table we will look at and, oh my it is a beauty. They really have captured the theme from the TV show with this table, everything from the characters positioned around the table to the quests you unlock from hitting the correct lanes. Each character has side quests, the lanes were clear to me which related to each one so getting the missions wasn’t confusing. It’s then a case of hitting the lit lanes to complete the mission, some take a bit of perseverance but we don’t want it too easy now do we? Also the voices couldn’t be better, they sound just like the shows and the phrase used suit the game to a tee. There’s plenty of missions and quests for you to deal with so this is a table that won’t be over quickly, my only bit of advice is to watch the TV series then everything will make more sense. Check out the video for some gameplay:

Family Guy

Without a doubt, Family Guy is one of the biggest shows around. Using this reputation, a fantastic pinball table has been created. All the main characters are here and all play a part out of the table, there’s even some surprise ones thrown in too. I found right from the start where you have to hit Peter with the pinball, this table just screams out fun. The missions are easy to start, illuminate the letters in the name and off you go. Follow the description and the quest is complete, one thing I thought was an excellent touch is the pinball changes into the character (you’ll see what I mean when you play). A similar point with this table, watching the TV series will help to get the most out of it. Take a look at the gameplay in the video below:

Bob’s Burgers

The third table is just as much fun as the previous two, again based on the highly successful TV series. All the characters are present again and all have their own quests to complete, with this one the quests were harder to start and much more involved so best to pay attention to the LCD screen in the top right corner. The layout of this table for me is a bit crowded, I found this made it difficult to aim for the lanes but due to this made it more satisfying when I did hit them. Not sure if I had bad luck but I found the pinball went into the outside lanes far too easy, thank goodness for the fry again option supplied. A really nice touch is that the LCD screen matches Bob when he cooks in the mission shown in the video, plus I found the music the best on this table than the others. Have a look at the video below and see what you think:

Archer

I’ll be honest with you guys here, I didn’t know a lot about this TV series so had a completely open mind with this one. I’m a big fan of the other three, the good news is this table is up to the high standard and I really enjoyed playing this one. The crocodile launcher is a nice change, but judging the strength was tricky as the screen zooms right in on it. The layout of the table is much more open here, the majority of the lanes are to the left which makes the gameplay faster. Also the table has the best animations out of the four, I mean there’s a car on this table that zooms around when the quests are opened. If you keep an eye on the top of the table, it folds out and creates a whole new area (unfortunately I was a bit rubbish but you do get a glimpse of it). Take a look at the video for an idea of the gameplay:

There’s so much to do on each of these tables, over 15 different modes on each one in case you were wondering. I can see me spending hours playing these tables, being a fan of each of the TV shows really does help understand just how much work has gone into these beauties. You can download these tables right now either via your Xbox or by clicking right hereplus you get four tables for a very reasonable £7.99. An absolute must buy for fans of pinball and of the TV shows, let us know your thoughts on the ‘Balls Of Glory’ DLC in the comments. Please note, you must have the Pinball FX2 downloaded first, it’s free to download and again can be found either through your Xbox or you can click here.
